Thanks a lot! I'm going to test the new version as soon as I'm home.

I'd like to apologize for the not very polite formulation of my last post, but it was literally in the middle of the night, and I was quite annoyed by having to uninstall all addons one by one and reloading KSP every time, in order to figure out which addon was causing problems...

No worries. :) It's literally impossible for you to offend me; my only encouragement to you is that the more informative your posts are, the more helpful I can be. I totally get the frustration of trying to get mods working in a new install; I mean, how am I supposed to start a career without TACLS? ;)

thx for the lat/lon! I like to be able to say "now 18km downrange..." in my launch report tweets like they do during actual launch commentary. I plot the Lat/Lon on the KSP Maps site and draw a pixel line to it from KSC to measure the distance using the scale in the bottom left

Just to clarify, "downrange distance" is the distance from point A to point B along an idealized sphere (ignoring topography, etc.), where point A is the reference location (e.g. the space center) and point B is the surface point radially beneath the subject (e.g. the spacecraft), right? If so, I can give you that. I could put it on the HUD in situations where it makes sense, even, if that's something you're interested in.

I appreciate the offer! But with the tools I have it's easy enough to plot on my own. If others chime in for it too or if it's something you feel others will find useful go right ahead. I'm fine with things as they are though.

Mostly I'm just thinking about how super-wrong a line measurement on a cylindrical projection would be if you were anywhere not-near the equator. Doesn't matter a whole lot for launches from KSC, but if you're using a mod that gives bases at non-equatorial latitudes, a line on a cylindrical projection map would mean something very different.

I am having a strange issue with VOID 14.2. It simply will not work with Blizzy's toolbar for me. If any version of the two are installed together, even if they are the only 2 mods in a clean install, they will not work. One will work fine without the other, but never together. This is a problem that just manifested for me. So I did a complete re-install of the game and the two still will not get along regardless of x86, x64, their being the only 2 mods or not, or version. I want to use VOID and I need to use Toolbar for the other mods I want to use. I have tried rolling back toolbar versions and wanted to try rolling back VOID versions but deleted my local older copies and can not find them for download on-line. Any ideas?

So, I'm not sure what you mean by "will not work". The game runs just fine for in Windows (x32) and Linux (x64) with the Blizzy's Toolbar and VOID installed, and the buttons work just fine. There is currently an issue, if you enable VOID's Toolbar icon in the editor before going to flight mode, when you change to flight mode there will be a VOID Toolbar button that doesn't work, and a VOID AppLauncher button that does work. If you use the AppLauncher button to open up the config and enable the Toolbar button, the problem goes away.

If that's not what you're talking about first: make sure you have unpacked the ToadicusTools directory from the VOID archive, and second: get me a log (Windows: \path\to\KSP_win\KSP_Data\output_log.txt; Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Squad/Kerbal\ Space\ Program/Player.log; Mac: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log) and a more-thorough description of your problem.

By not work I mean Toolbar will be there and no sign of any VOID button anywhere and no option for it in the toolbar. As if the mod simply isn't there. Install is by the books and works as intended without Toolbar 1.7.6 or 1.7.7. As soon as either Toolbar is installed VOID vanishes like it was never installed. Remove toolbar and void works fine alone. As I stated I have tried this in both exe's and with and without any mods and with a fresh install and the result stays the same. I will give you the contents of my log as requested if you think it will do any good. The contents of the file is too much to be posted in a spoiler here, how would you like for me to send you the file?

Yes I have been playing with mods since April of 2013. I have installed this mod correctly since I first started using it months ago. I have re-installed it a half dozen times while trouble shooting. I did all this basic stuff first and exhausted all options which is why I came here.

So I've tried just about everything I can think of and I cannot duplicate your issue. There are no errors or other indications in your log to suggest a problem. So, here are some debug builds of ToadicusTools.dll and VOID.dll, which will cause a lot of noise on your screen and in your log, but hopefully will help us to uncover the truth.

Please follow these steps:

  • Delete or relocate GameData/toolbar-settings.dat.
  • Delete or relocate GameData/VOID/Plugins/PluginData
  • Overwrite ToadicusTools.dll and VOID.dll in place with the debug versions linked above.
  • Open KSP
  • Make a new save, or open an existing clean save
  • Go to the VAB
  • Add a part
  • Using the AppLauncher button, open the VOID configuration panel and check "Use Blizzy's Toolbar"
  • Check the Toolbar menu for VOID icon visibility.
  • "Launch" your part
  • Using the AppLauncher button, open the VOID configuration panel and check "Use Blizzy's Toolbar"
  • Check the Toolbar menu for VOID icon visibility.
  • Force-close the game (click the "X" in the upper-right, or press Alt-F4)
  • Upload the resulting log and link it here or in a PM to me.

Thanks!

I know it is an odd issue I am having too. Thanks for looking into it and I will give these things a try. I figured surely that a clean install of everything would cure the issue but it did not. I get that feeling I have the one in a million weird bug. Thanks for looking in to it and if I get it figured out I will let you know though I hope and doubt anyone else will have it.

VOID has been updated to version 0.14.3! This version adds a new "downrange distance" field to the HUD, Surface & Atmosphere, and DataLogger modules.

CHANGELOG:

v.0.14.3 [2014-10-19]
* VOID_HUD: Added new "Range to KSC" field to the right HUD when landed, splashed down, flying, or suborbital at Kerbin.
* VOID_SurfAtmo: Added "Downrange Distance" field. This will be NaN when it doesn't make sense.
* VOID_DataLogger: Added "Downrange Distance" field. This will be NaN when it doesn't make sense.
* Improved exception handling for all modules.

love it! Not sure if this falls under "HUD customization" in the TODO list but just wanted to remind you about the field highlighting idea for quick referencing. Right now I just open up an Engineer window customized to only show the display I need to keep an eye on, but I prefer VOID's presentation

Me again, I've been noticing VOID seems to screw up with the KW service module engine, it displays some extremley low delta-v number, what's happening?

EDIT: I'm an idiot. It runs on Monopropellant. TIL.

I think the dV calculations are off when you're using radial engines... specifically I'm using 4x Rockomax 24-77 engines, with the fuel tank attached to a rover. When I got to LKO it said I had 2.7 km/s, then when I did my transfer burn to the Mun (about 860 m/s) it then went down to only 680ish m/s. That's more than a factor of 2. Additionally, the "Bottom Stage dV" reads 0 when the radial engines are active, and VOID's burn time estimation doesn't work. (stock one still works fine, though less accurate and intolerant of quickloads)

edit: Apparently it's not the radial engines' fault, but the rover. Attaching it to the bottom somehow fails to take its weight into account, and confuses the way VOID detects staging.
