Swapping KSP Between Vanilla and Modded

Recommended Posts

Heya,

I started using a lot of mods in version .21, which worked out just fine! But now having those mods in place with version .22 causes the research screen in Career mode to act very strangely. Though I have no tried it, I assume using a clean install would fix those issues.

I am wondering if anyone knows of an easy simpler way to move my files in and out of the steam folder in an efficient way, to consider the game either modded or not modded.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I guess I could do that, I thought for some reason there would be a better way. Also, out of curiosity, does anyone know about such known bugs involving mods? I mean, I know I can search it, but I am stumped trying to think of the proper way to explain it in short words! I can buy the first command module with science points, but then the page for building in the VAB says I still need to research it.

I looked into it, and this program, JSGME does seem to be exactly what I was looking for, and it seems very useful for KSP. I recommend SQUAD look into it's use, because it has a lot of features built in meant for developers, such as having the program respond to command line parameters, allowing a game (KSP) to manipulate the program as well. It is specifically meant to be free, it seems, too.

Thanks again!

JSGME is very G, generic, it works all games, even collections of mp3 or jpg because it is very very simple logic. Takes files from here, put them there, and able to restore to original. The only special features are a backup hidden folder for original files and will tell you both mods changed the same file(s) so they are dependent and connected.

With Silent Hunter 3/4 all mods used standard structure to be "JSGME ready" which was nice. In KSP you have to set up your entries like: \KSP_win\MODS\Amazo's Mod v1.2\GameData\Amazo\Parts\.... Then JSGME takes contents of "Amazo's Mod v1.2" folder to root (same as JSGME.exe) which is KSP_win so GameData folder will mesh. Maybe KSP community will adopt JSGME folder structure too.

^^ x3

I also run separate installations: Modded, Stock, Test.

I've found KSP Mod Admin to be the perfect tool for installing/uninstalling mods in my Modded and Test installs. I looked at JSGME also, but it IS very generic, where KSPMA is made specifically FOR KSP, and has MANY more useful features geared specifically for KSP.

MacTee (the dev), is always on top of bugs and improvements, and updates it frequently.

I think that the steam version of KSP lets you just copy the entire game folder somewhere else, allowing you to have two separate instalations of the game.

It does, I have .21 on my computer as a backup in case anything goes horribly wrong.
