KSP Test Pilot Endurance Relay race

Recommended Posts

WARNING THIS CHALLENGE CONTAINS SPOILERS

Challenge Outline

You start on the Rocket launch pad. Jeb and Bill head over to the Runway arguing the whole way about who will get to pilot during the challenge. It is up to you to pick which one will do it. Read the directions on the first flag. The flags will guild you through the race.

To Start

To play the challenge, I suggest you start a new game, and replace the persistent file in your newly created game folder with this one.

Upon starting the game, and being presented with the Space Centre screen, click on the launch pad and select the first option. This will take you to the CRAWLER on the launch pad with which you should Head over to the Runway. Your time starts as soon as you launch the crawler.

Your goal is to fly through all 7 Loop beacons scattered across Kerbin and land safely back at KSP as quickly as possible. You will switch aircraft before going through each beacon. A Aircraft has been provided at each of the beacons for your convenience, and to test your landing skills.

To enter challenge.

Take a screen shot of each landing and the MET of the Rover in the Tracking station. Your Total Score will be your time + 5 min for every crash landing. Good luck!

1. mcirish3 - MET 2h 18min 35s - Penalty +20min = 2h 38min 35s

I intend having a go, but I won't post a time because having had a first look, I know my piloting skills aren't up to flying through that first hoop, especially in the dark. Having timewarped round to daylight, I still don't have the ability to negotiate that particular obstacle. Also, when I got to the island, the 2nd flag was a few kilometres offshore in the water. That's one hell of a swim. Not sure if it should be there, if it's a result of me timewarping. Will have another look, starting in the dark as intended.

I will admit the loops are hard to hit. especialy the high Altititude ones. I hope to finish myself tonight. We will see. As far as the second flag it should be in the hanger on the Island runway not in the water. I hope you can fix it. I will check the master file and see if it where it is suppoed to be. the file I am using has it in the correct place and that is the one I uploaded so....?

First hoop is no harder than the barnstorming challenge, but given my lack of landing skills, crashing after 15 minute flight makes me think twice before I do another attempt.

2nd flag is supposed to be in the hangar on the island.

And I really wonder what makes people call it hanger. My english teacher would have scolded me if I did that.

Yes, isn't it for you?

..... crashing after 15 minute flight makes me think twice before I do another attempt.

Did you crash on your landing? dont try and fly through the second loop with the plane at the Island it is too big. There is a much smaller one waiting near the second loop. Also these craft are fairly stable so physics warp is an option bellow 20km. If you crash land but your Pilot survives it is possible to walk to the next craft, of course at a 5min penalty.

Below you will find my screenshots my full mission. I had 4 total crashes including my rover crash at the beginning. My MET is 2h 18min 35s + 20min penalty for crashes give a total of 2h 38min 35s.

I should Note that the MET on you aircraft is not correct since some of the craft sat a very long time while I flew the other craft to their landing locations. Hence the rover at the start to record your time.

I've started on this, enjoying it a lot so far. Particularly all the different aircraft and challenging locations (and loops). I've done three loops so far, except I'll have to redo the third since I apparently did it with the wrong plane.

I made a flyby of loop #2 and as it loaded into view I saw explosions, apparently some of the cubic struts were having a hissyfit and when I came in for my first try the loop had slumped onto its side. I had to change my approach and flew through it on my second pass, while it was at a roughly 45° angle. Sure spiced things up since just before my attempt I realized I forgot to quicksave before taking off.

I'll be doing this a bit at a time, rather than one sitting, so don't expect my entry just yet (probly take another two or three days with everything else going on). Just wanted to give you a big thumbs up mcirish3, well thought out and designed challenge from what I've experienced so far.

Thank You,

No biggie on the time, I had to do it that way also. Also no rules on which plane you use for a particular loop. You always have the option of doing the loop first and then the landing. Most pilot don't trust their piloting skills enough to do it that way, including myself, more power to you :). You do have to land and read each flag and do the loops in order and switch aircraft at each flag reading. Good Luck!
