Fun little challenge. Yet, you learn something. (Video Tutorial-added)

Recommended Posts

Access this challenge via your [start Game]->[scenarios]->[EVA in Kerbin Orbit].

This challenge only took about 3~5mins per try.

1) Fly Jeb back to the ship. Orbiter 1. (Hints: Double click on the ship to target it.)

2) Right click on Orbiter 1 engine, activate the engine.

3) Click and drag the [stage-0] to [stage-1] (So you will not decouple the fuel tank accidentally. (Optional)).

Hit the F5. (Yes, you can reload to perfect your landing.)

4) Start decent to KSC. (Hints: not necessary pointing to retrograde. ENxNstw.png)

5) Your goal: Land as close to VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) as possible. Preferably on its rooftop helipad.

Score/Rewards:-

I) The closes to VAB building wins. (Via eyeballing on your pic submitted!)

II) On Rooftop, you will got a Star mark ✪ and a Logo as pin-point lander.

III) With fuels left. The fuel units will be shown at the Logo.

After clicking through the album I "clicked" close on the Flight Results popup "window" ...

Now this will be hard! (For me at least.)

I only ever bothered with pinpoint landings on bodies without an atmosphere.

The result are repeatable. Yes. Is like learning to bicycle or swimming, once you master it. You will never forget. Its up to you, whether you are willing to learn or not.

This is my second try. Just missed it by "that much".

No no, I meant literally clicked on the window in your album ... :P

You are clever to limit us to this one craft - I was thinking about using landing thrusters and more then one row of parachutes ... :D

You will see bunch of people having "Star" after my video uploaded.

and

@Scarecrow88 Your name are listed. And logo is ready. (Optional for you to display it). Congratulation! and Please try again!

I spent an hour on this challenge, finetuning my technique and finally nailing the helipad.

Main trick I used was to only deploy one chute higher up so I could still steer with the engine, then the other two close to 'landing', didn't decouple the engine/tank in time but ah well.

Please note that some of these are actually from different approaches, apart from the last two. I did a heap of approaches but wanted to include a couple screenies to show my method.

Congratulation Johonno. You find a new way of pin-point landing. Your logo will be ready in a moment. (Optional to display it). Please try again if you wish. I believe you have confident that you will "always" land in KSC area. (Not necessary on that pad, am I right?).

Wow, I'm impress, 140 fuel left. Mind to share some detail on how you did that?

Mainly I just repeated my approach enough times from my quicksave point in orbit so that I knew where to put my periapsis/projected impact point with the main deorbit burn. Then as I already mentioned I opened only one chute so I could still steer easily before opening the other two just over the helipad.

Hitting the thicker part of the atmosphere at the right point is sort of crucial, so you're slowed down without having to spend a lot of fuel. That's where repetition comes in.

btw, logo updated. Optional to use.

Thanks, I've saved it and will work it into my signature image when I get around to making one.

Bit more practice and a slightly better score. These are from two different approaches as I didn't take that many screenshots during the better scoring try. I've gotten quite confident about landing on the helipad but even a slight error in the deorbit burn means I have to spend extra fuel to hit KSC.

Score: 157

Congratulation on your new score. I see you enjoy the challenge! I'm coming up with the new logo design.

missed it by THAT much, i'll come back again later

Thanks for taking part in the challenge. Please try again, however, you have earn yourself a logo for that too. (On helipad, give you additional "star" on logo.).
