Require line of sight for a successful report transmission

Recommended Posts

Yup, definitely utilize transmiting feature, transmit is great, but if you can do it from whenever its not so extending whole feature, i would like to see diference between transmitter used for transmitting science like 20/40/60% ...., and also range to do that, bigger range - lower gain, + more repeaters (satelites) used = less loss of initial ability of first antenna.

This will make players to more use probes and create satelites on orbits, which is great now, but player is not foced (or pulled) that way now, which is sad...

Satellites/comms networks would be great, but I think line of sight would just be tedious, you want to transmit data, but you have to wait 20 minutes for the satellite to get around the planet? Probably an acceptable break from reality to just let you send the stuff (if you have problems with that immersion-wise, just pretend you're telling the probe/Kerbals to send the data as soon as they have line of sight, and once you've done that, your job is done)

So set up a satellite network that gives you line of sight back to KSC via relay. 3 Geostationary satellites 120 degrees apart around Kerbin would be a good start.

remember the whole thing is for less experienced players, not for you die hards who can get 1000+ science on your first launch.

No, "the whole thing" is not. Some parts are to assist new players. The entire game won't be built around assisting new players though.

Relay networks are easy to build, easy to launch (satellites don't weigh much), and give you a real sense of purpose and accomplishment. One of the very first missions (if such a thing ever appears) in career mode could well be "set up communications satellites around kerbin". It only takes small rockets and you don't have to do any intercepts.

add line of sight but also allow us to send up satellites to get around that. so for instance you land on the far side of the mun, you can than transmit the data through a satellite that has line of sight to you and kerbin

Yep, that's how the remote-tech mod did it and it worked perfectly.
