Stop IVA from switching control.

Recommended Posts

So lately I've been trying to take screenshots- say, from the window of a Hitchiker, or a side-mounted coupola or such. But when I do KSP automatically switches control there- so I have to remember where the control function is before I go back into maneuvers (Or, more dangerously, MID maneuver!)

Is there any way to "lock" where a ship is freaking controlled from? XD

No, once you switch to IVA the game assumes you want to control from there. You'll have to use your navball along with the knowledge of your ship's design and your surroundings.

Great. So much for IVA rovers.

That doesn't in any way exclude the ability to make IVA steerable rovers. Rovers would even be the easiest to get IVA compatible, use one of the plane cockpits or any other cockpit rotated in the appropriate direction compared to the surface/wheels.

If I am not mistaken there are just two pods that cannot be used for rovers - Mk1 Lander Can and Mk2 Lander Can. Any other pod should be ok for a rover.

Edit: heh, I went trying them and the large (Mk3) cockpit was sure a surprise for IVA :D

Sadly those are the -BEST- pods to use. They have a freaking window set up JUST perfectly for it, they're the right shape, and they have a low center of gravity. :(

?

Has there been a change in .22 that prevents them from being used?

Here is my Mk2 Lander Can based rover from .21, it successfully drove 24km on the Mun (driven in both IVA mode and external). I don't remember encountering any specific issues.

Hm, the only problem with landing pods is that the navball is turned wrong and the direction you're going is at the bottom of the navball which makes it not very useful. You can read inclination of terrain below you from it, I guess.

It's still possible to navigate using the lander cans and the navball; you just have to consider that your direction indicator is at the "top" of the ship, and that the hatch and windows are on the horizon. Thus, your heading is going to be determined by whatever heading line is closest to the top of your screen.

For instance, even given the fairly low resolution, I can tell that in Dave Kerbin's first screenshot, his rover is heading west.
