Red Mars Challenge

A challenge to replicate the colonization of mars, based off the book by Kim Stanley called Red Mars.

Any mods can be used to replicate any of it.

In the book they start by sending a bunch of unmanned rovers, transport rovers, supply landers, dirigibles, and gliders.

Each one of craft sent before the people are all sent in separate launches. The ship that takes the people(kerbals) is made of multiple docked craft, and in the book holds 100 people. When they get there, they rearrange the ship into several craft. The craft it turns into are- landers to take the people to mars, a space station, a lander for the moon Phobos(ike), and a craft to take the Phobos Landing crew to Mars.

I looked, the challenge is to try and replicate the colonization part of the book at close as possible.

What would help is to have a breakdown of points we gain or lose from doing various things, i.e. points per Kerbal carried on one ship, penalties for using multiple ships, mods accepted. You should also do the challenge first yourself to see how easily you can replicate it.

Here's an example:

My Duna Mission Challenge

Objective: Duna return expeditions. Construct ships in orbit and send an armada to Duna during a launch window.

Must use: One or Two ships, can be assembled in orbit.

Specify mods you want to use.

Points (Stack):

+100 points for entering and returning from Duna's SOI.

+50 points for entering an orbit around Duna.

+25 points for entering

+50 points for entering an orbit around Ike.

+100 points for landing on Ike.

+200 points for landing on Duna.

+10 points for each Kerbal in Duna's SOI or orbit.

+20 points for each Kerbal in Ike's SOI or orbit.

+30 points for each Kerbal landed on Duna.

+30 points for each Kerbal landed on Ike.

-50 points for each Kerbal lost.

-50 points if refuelling mission is required.

Hurr Bonus Points

+75 points for deploying a rover on the surface of Duna or Ike, and driving to at least 10km of the landing site.

+100 points for deploying a permanent space station in Duna orbit from one ship (defined as at least a hitchhiker module with solar panels, RCS, decent battery power, and at least one docking port of standard size).

Is there any chance of anyone making a better template than this and putting it on a sticky? It might help people a lot with making challenges.

Don't mean Kim Stanley Robinson? As in Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars? When do we get to plant Ike into Duna to provide an atmosphere then

I'm reading the book right now and am very inspired to do something similar... Have to get back on that.

In the meanwhile, may a direct your attention to a possible error in the book that I found?
