Do you want to get payed to play KSP?

NASA will pay you to play KSP, no joke!

Suddenly my aspirations of becoming a real-life rocket scientist went out the window.

Who says there’s a job crisis in America? NASA is currently looking to pay a number of volunteers $18,000 to lie in bed for 70 days. Participants will be allowed to play games, talk to friends and family members, take classes, even work remotely for their real job, as long as they do not get out of bed for the entire duration of the experiment.

So assuming you got this job, what kinds of missions would you attempt to do in your 70 days of mostly uninterrupted playtime?

It's to stay in bed, not play KSP

While I have heard of such experiments before, (And have submitted an application for one), it is not telling us to directly play KSP, which I was expecting.

Besides, it's hard to play KSP while lying down (I've tried)

I take it you didn't read the link?

Edit: I'll make it easy for you.

The study will simulate the effects of microgravity on the human body by having the beds tilt head-down at a six-degree angle, forcing body fluids to shift to the upper part of the body and create cardiovascular conditions similar to what is seen during real spaceflight. Scientists will also be monitoring the atrophy of muscle and bone density in the subjects.

Unfortunately, it will take more than years of experience watching marathons of The Wire on your sofa to land this position. According to NASA news chief Kelly Humphries, “subjects need to be very healthy.†Even those who make it to the short list will need to go through a modified Air Force Class Three physical, complete a battery of tests, and undergo a 90-minute examination by a psychologist.

“We want to make sure we select people who are mentally ready to spend 70 days in bed,†says senior scientist Dr. Roni Cromwell. “Not every type of person can tolerate an extended time in bed.â€Â

If you still think you have what it takes to be a space potato, you can apply for the position here.

For a NASA fanboy, I'm surprised you never heard of these experiments before - they do them all the time.

Edit edit:

And it specifically says you can play games - which is functionally the same as getting payed to play.

wouldnt catch me not getting out of bed for 70 days.

Like the article says you will have to already be very healthy and undergo a rigorous physical test. Because 70 days in bed at a slight angle with no exercise or anything...that aint gonna do you any good

What about....

Seriously, only US citizens are allowed to take part.

How many people are US citizens?

A number between 0 and 300 million people.

_______________

Oh the missions I could accomplish in KSP with 70 days of nothing but play time!

What kind of missions would you do?

.

Quite a fair of time I've spent playing has been in a semi-reclined sort of position. Not fully lying down, but kinda. Laptop on my hip, mouse by my side..

It works.

But sitting or standing is better when you really want to concentrate on something.

You only get paid 10 dollars an hour. Specifically 10.71 dollars an hour. While it's not bad money considering they would probably pay for food etc. I see it as a potential detriment considering that time could be spent gaining skills for long term employment at a higher monetary rate.

I heard in a conference a couple of days ago about cardiovascular problems that scientist tried to see the effect of 3 weeks I think of inactivity on a couple of people, and the decrease of health they had was worse after only three weeks than 30 years later, if I remember correctly
