How do I use batteries? I just unlocked the Z-100's. How do I get them to recharge?

You can recharge them when you thrust certain engines. The LV909 for example can not recharge batteries. Further up in the tech tree you will get solar cells which you will be able to use to recharge. As of now you just have to be careful not to drain out of power completely. Do some simple missions around the kerbin system until you get the solar panels

And just stick them to your craft to use them. It is used by the SAS/torque included in pods and also to transfer data from experiments (which I do not recommend until you get solar panels!)

They recharge in exactly the same way pod batteries recharge - solar panels, engine alternators, or RTGs.

Oh, and does the batterie have to be on top of the part I want it to work on for it to work? Or is it universal for the whole ship?
