Recording software?

Hello all I am wanting to start a small series of KSP videos, but have no software to use.

I'd like a free screen recorder capable of at least 20 FPS preferable 30.

Anyone care to tell me what they use? Or is my request a ridiculous one?

Free recording software is nearly impossible to find.

For all the videos I do, (go check out my KSP YouTube Channel)I use the following tools:

FRAPS - for video and live mic capture during game-play. (Not Free, but quite affordable - at $37 you get life-time updates.)

Music Maker Jam - to compose non-commercial musical scores for my videos. (FREE! Additional audio packs run $2-$4 each).

FL Studio 11 - for more advance audio processing, like mixing soundtracks, sound effects, and narration. (NOT Free, rather expensive, actually... The most basic edition is $99, but you do get lifetime free updates.)

Paint.Net - And for any still frames I want to show, like slides, titles, etc... (FREE!)

Lastly, I use Microsoft Movie Maker to stitch everything together. (FREE with your OS).

Anyway, for video capture, for me it's all FRAPS - get it and you will be able to use it for any game you want.

Jing by techsmith is free, can capture 5 minutes, I have the full Camtasia suite which is pretty awesome.

Sweet thanks for all your suggestions! I'll try out MSI Afterburner.

I already have the demo of FL studio (it still has all sound files and can make music it just can't load previously made things)

I have Paint.net

I have Movie Maker

And I use all of them I just needed something to record video on screen :) thanks all!

If you are using Nvidia, Kepler gen GPU, you can use ShadowPlay to record. It's easy, doesn't load your system too much and free.

I searched Nvidia but found no download. Could you send me a link to the download page?

Nvm! got it

One for the list: Overwolf. Sadly (depending on your opinion), this excellent screen recorder comes bundled inside a very compact (it collapses to a small icon when not in use) ingame widget suite. For example, a chat program that hooks into various other things like steam chat/facebook/skype/teamspeak, an ingame web browser, tools for showing FPS, that sort of thing. The only thing I ever use(d) is the screen recorder, although I just purchased Bandicam to try it out and see if it does well.

Benefits: Small file size, high quality video (720p), you can watch your videos ingame, you can upload the raw footage to youtube ingame. For examples of Overwolf videos, click the image in my sig and scroll pretty much to the bottom. Any framerate issues are from me recording everything on a laptop that was never meant for gaming. What you see is exactly what I saw, minus Youtube's automatic video compression.

Drawbacks: Comes with a bunch of other stuff that is probably unnecessary, will probably break temporarily when KSP updates, you can't tweak video recording settings (but then again, they're very well optimised.)
