An election? Or a census?
Nope. :)
I am having trouble parsing the second line of the riddle.

Seeing as the religious component is figurative, maybe it's a sports team song or chant?

The second line isn't anything fancy, really.

The religious component is mostly figurative, I said. Nope. :)

I was reading "heralds" as a plural noun, it makes more sense now that I realize it's a verb. I really should not try to think late at night. :)

For a new page:

'Tis the tune of an ancient song;

The harbinger's call heralds harms,

Gathers rich, poor, right and wrong.

Menace be mustered with psalms

And shoes; let the sieges begin.

Every man has their day,

Every man has their flaws and sin,

But all today enter, and pray.

It seems like it is some sort of music that calls people to action. The last line makes it seem like a special day. Hmmm.

YOU LITTLE...

I think that's the answer. Or on the right track.

(Mumbles about how I should've kept the shoes to myself)

It doesn't fit with the "harm" and "menace" though. This is another stumper.

'Tis the tune of an ancient song; --Older times: something related to music
The harbinger's call heralds harms, --Prewarning of danger
Gathers rich, poor, right and wrong. --No discrimination, or that all people obey the song/music/sound...
Menace be mustered with psalms --Okay, this would translate into: "Assemble Threats with Songs"
And shoes; let the sieges begin. --Continued, less confusing: "And shoes (Boots?)" Plus something to do with sieges. Relating to war, then.
Every man has their day, --Every person does this at some time
Every man has their flaws and sin, --Even if they are not "perfect"
But all today enter, and pray. --THIS is confusing. Is it completely inverting the previous lines? (IE: BUT this is something else entirely, please disregard all other information :confused:again)

What do you call the hymns and such you would sing when marching into battle?

EDIT:

Drum beat? (marching?)

Is the answer a church? Because of that last line...
Well, ignoring the rest of the lines isn't going to get much of a reliable answer.

Nope.

Bird song? Crow's cry?
Nope. :)
An air raid siren?
Nope. :)
Ballroom dancing?
Nope. :)
So it is more like "an ancient story"?

Ignoring the first line it could be an air raid siren or something similar but how does that fit to the "ancient song"?

Maybe it refers to an historic event of some sort?

Nope. :)

Nope. :)

Not a half-bad deconstruction, though.

Conscription?
Nope. :)
Not sure it fully fits, but a baby's cry? Maybe the riddle being a rather pessimistic, destined-to-die-as-soon-as-we're-born view of birth.
Nope. :)

Well, let's see. Not a siren, or drum beat, or death.

What are we looking for here? A specific name or a general category?

Another guess: The Sense of Morality.

OOOAOKFJKDSJF*random sputtering noises* is it a church choir?!?
