Just to clarify, I hope...You want to make a docking port...contraption that acts like a docking port? Is your goal to actually merge the two crafts, or are they supposed to be clamped together? If that's what you want, landing legs in a certain configuration would do just what you want.

You will have to define this challenge more clearly, two crafts can't merge without docking ports in which case it's not a docking port you've created. And without moving parts the crafts won't be clamped together, so any movement would potentially disconnect them.

One option would be a rotational 'lock' of sorts.

So to be clear, what exactly do you want this challenge to accomplish?

I've done this in 0.17 with two Noyuz spacecraft with laning legs to "grab" other craft.

Killed few hours to make a rendezvouz
