KSP beats out EVE. This pretty much proves that building is more fun than destroying.

EVE Is a niche game. It has an audience of less than half a million players. It's also an MMO, and pretty harsh.

KSP Is easily acessible, and has an audience that's probably in the millions. You do the math.

Wait, EVE is basically a space equivalent of WoW^3 (Harsher, as you said)

But it's still a fairy tale, like most "Sci-Fi" stuff, starting with Star Wars...

Kerbal is heavily based in real life science, with only fiction around these parts being high density planets (for gameplay reasons, get Real Solar System mod if you don't like it), crew immune to radiation, and ultrahighefficiencymegamagical life support systems.

Oh, and external fuel pipes, I'm led to believe.

Isn't then KSP more of a niche game? Not to derail the thread much, we can continue our discussion in private, or on another topic if there is any..

PS

CONGRATULATIONS! :-)

Seriously doubt both numbers, but especially the one for KSP.

Eve has on average 40-50.000 people online at any given time. Given the average time people spend in an MMO is 1-2 hours a day at most, they would need to have indeed over half a million active accounts. Of course more than a few of those are bots and alts, making the actual number of subscribers far lower.

But what with a large number of Eve players only logging in far less than that (especially the oldtimers, who often only log in once a week or less for a few minutes to set new skills to train and track their sales and mining operations) the numbers go up, probably into a few million accounts that show at least regular activity (the number of paying accounts for Eve is of course far lower than the number of active accounts, as their payment system using PLEX makes it possible to play without ever forking over a dime to Eve's creators).

My guess is we're talking about a similar number of interested parties, but with KSP being more friendly, and inviting more immersion and a greater sense of community, its users are more likely to be positive about their game outside the support forums (where being negative about it just gives you a bad reputation which in Eve is tantamount to getting yourself tagged with massive bounties that make it impossible to go anywhere at all without being attacked and killed).

EVE Has about 350.000 active accounts, not counting trials. I'd say half that in actual subscribers. So you have a player base of at most 200.000 people.

I don't know the number of sales KSP has, but I seriously doubt it's less than a million, given its popularity.

Someone isn't very familiar with EVE...
