Wouldn\'t this allow planes? Heck, my Skybax can reach a kerbal escape trajectory, turn around, and glide back to an unpowered landing. Does that count?

I guess its a perfectly fine agument, my Satellite Launcher Shuttle goes to orbit, deploys the satellite and go back to earth using only one extra booster to compensate the satellite weight (without the satellite it can go to escape velocity).

We really need re-entry heat. Any plane can simply re-enter the atmosphere at around 10km/s and still come about to around 150m/s when you are at landing altitude.

Is the challenge to survive a terminal velocity fall? Are you allowed to use winglets?

What\'s the distinction between using winglets and being a plane?

I got up to 120m and then landed on launch pad which is at 58m with all default parts.

I did decouple the lander from the rockets but I didn\'t read anything about decouplers.
