Why couldn't you just finish and start playing .23 when you're ready?

Steam users don't have that luxury.

I personally look forward to and simultaneously dread updates. On one hand, cool new features and modes to play with... on the other is the waiting for all of my favorite mods to get updated :D

You can disable auto update in steam. Though it sometimes re-enables which is why I dislike steam.

they most certainly do have that luxury. It just requires changing settings. or copying your game into a different directory so steam won't update it if you're really paranoid about it.
