Mun orbit

Recommended Posts

Sirine, we've talked about 10,000m being the minimum to avoid disappearing flights, but it looks like you've refined that to 8000? I'm curious as to how you arrived at that figure.

I did a little test dropping probes on a course that intersects Muns surface, they seemed to disappear below 4.8km

I came by it because it's slightly higher than the highest elevation. (which is somewhere around 7.9 km) but as i said earlier, you would be nuts to fly that low (or jeb, your choice) 10km is low enough that the dV lost for the higher altitude when landing is negligible while still being well above the highest elevation ( and low enough that you can plainly see any Mun arches you come across)

Going by kerbalmaps, 5670 m. That's for a fairly high inclination orbit, though, so you might be able to get away with less near equatorial.

Highest peak on Mun (according to Kerbal maps) is 7061 m.

But height is not always the main limiting factor. I usually look at the maximum warp table when I am deciding on what orbit will I use.
