Kom-Sat by Majorjim. An exercise in fairing asthetics.

Hi all,

Ive been tinkering with new ideas for small stock fairings. I wanted a smooth looking fairing that split cleanly into two halves.

I have used the technique I developed to add a nice looking small fairing for a communication satellite and built a little rocket around it.

The Kom-Sat 1 rocket can put the satellite into an orbit of around 170k M around Kerbin.

How to fly

Launch with the throttle set to the notch that looks about half.

Full throttle at 10k M and start a quick turn east or west to 45 degrees.

Release the boosters when they are depleted and let the first stage burn out.

Separate from the first stage and release the fairings.

Circularize your orbit with the payload stage.

Release the satellite and de-orbit the payload stage engine.

Its not perfect looking and would probably be too many parts if you wanted to make a larger one. But to cover a small payload its great!

Looks like the "skeleton" of the fairing is made with these , with these solar panels on the interior, so it looks like a solid structure.

That's it Astro! Well spotted. I'm thinking this could be used To build so many different things. It is very low weight too.

Isn't there a mod that could be used to fuse the individual portions that break away into a single unit so as to keep the part count down? Doesn't that work regardless of if the end user has the mod or not? Dunno, just a thought for help with larger versions. Also, could not the doors be mounted on wheels to make for a payload deployment area on a larger, more permanent type craft? Just another thought, dunno if it even works in .23.....

I had my doubts when I read `small stock fairings` but they look great.

I don`t think anyone has found a way to make fairings that small either. I had to mentally rescale when I saw the payload...

The cubic struts and backwards solar panels

Are the only way to make little fairings like this.

They are useless for larger ones though due to the

High part count.
