Clean coupling or disable coupling magnets in docking ports

Recommended Posts

Hello Kerbals, Pioners, Voyagers and Launchpad-exploders,

I'm building my first Kerbal Space Station, and the fact that I have to put it module by module in orbit, the problem occurs that the Kerbal Engineers don't know that a module spins in space in the wrong position. Is there a way or a mod which disable the position of the magnets in the docking ports?

Cheers

Your question is a tad confusing, but as far as I know there is no way to disable the magnets in docking ports. If you are having issues docking I suggest Navyfish's Docking alignment indiactor. It's nothing more than a popup that shows your position relative to your target.

As Taki117 has indirectly alluded to, part of the problem is probably that you're not coming in "straight-on" at the target docking port, but that there's still a little bit of lateral drift as you close the distance. DPAI can really be useful for lining up clean approaches once you get used to the interface.

I have a technique for precision aligned docking when critical. You see, even using an alignment indicator, you still might be slightly off. I have long range vanillas that I used for early interplanetary which I docked main boosters to the side. To get them precise, I use the bicoupler or tricoupler module and put docking ports on it. When you dock, if you align the couplers close, then all the docking ports connect and true up your alignment. Here is me doing it in 0.21 for an eve rescue ship!

The link to the vid is at bottom, but this one will start at the ship assembly (8 minutes in) If you watch the full thing, warning my voicing is terrible at start XS
