Remember the manned/unmanned state in VAB

Recommended Posts

Well, this is rather a feature request than a suggestion.

I design a lot of craft with crew capacity, but with a probe core as well. I launch a lot of those unmanned (for testing, for other crews recovery etc.). I am getting seriously tired of having to evict the crew every time before launch.

Could we please have a checkbox somewhere in the VAB - "Do not load any kerbanauts into this vehicle when sending it to launchpad" - a checkbox (state) that is saved with the design?

That's it.

All of my yes.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I hold the life of my kerbonauts in high regard, and have to date not left a single one stranded or killed.

If I don't think they can survive a mission, and if my design hasn't been thoroughly tested, then they wont be flying on that mission.

This is, of course, in preparation for there actually being a penalty for deaths.

I wish you could specify for every seat, if it should be loaded with a Kerbal by default when going to the launch pad. Then when I click "launch" in the VAB/SPH, a screen comes up with the Kerbals in their seats ready to go, but I can even make changes then.

I've killed too many Kerbals by EVAing them minutes after launch had to revert flights back to the VAB too many times to count.

Every time you have to trundle a ship back to the VAB for technical difficulties, those darned over eager Kerbals keep sneaking aboard the ship. They don't care that the ship may crash or that you're using hyperedit to warp it to possibly certain destruction attempting to land on Eve. They just wanna fly!

In addition to remembering the manned/unmanned/less than full crew state, it would be nice if it would also remember the crew assigned to the ship.

Jeb, Bill and Bob keep knocking out the other Kerbalnauts and tying them up in store rooms just so they can get more missions. I've had to set guards on them whenever I assign a different crew. Otherwise I find them in the seats after bringing a ship back to the VAB then sending it back to the pad.
