Helloes!

while I'm still in the process of designing and building my first mothership for a manned voyage to duna, I want to see all of you designs, tips, reports and ideas regarding motherships!

This is what I used for my first (and so far only) two-way mission to Duna:

Those 3-kerbal capsules on the sides had sepatrons on them so I was able to deorbit them once I got back to Kerbin.

I use the one piece APSIS(All Purpose Small Interplanetary Ship) to go everywhere in the system. It has all the delta v to go to all the planets and moons in the system. The trip is only 1 way, though(Excluding Gilly)

I ended up landing on Duna's Pole.

Just hit the download button in the top right.

hope you like it!

Also, add chutes as needed.

What good fortune! After being away from KSP for weeks and then deciding to build a Duna mothership yesterday, this thread pops up. Have you been spying on me again, Zodiak‽

Here's the Dauntless. She started off of as a means to get my upcoming landers to Duna, but I think I'll release her as well when I've tweaked her.

Here's a Jool system mothership I'm working on. The total mass including transfer stage is 146 tons. My goal is to create something that can hit multiple moons of Jool and return in one launch.

The tank inside the fairing is my dummy payload. I'm in the process of developing landers to fit inside it.

You want dems muddahships? I'LL GIVE YOU DEMS MUDDAHSHIPS!

Well, pictures of dems muddahships, anyway...

MSV Enterprise CST-031-A:

Enterprise is a Constellation class cruiser. Initially, the Constellation class was equipped with a warp drive and had less liquid fuel and habitable space, but major design revisions saw the decommissioning of the MSV Constellation CST-052 and the commissioning of the Enterprise. The new design has no warp drive, but it has more liquid fuel, and can carry 12 crew, although 9 is the norm. The ship is currently standing by for its mission while I position vehicles around Laythe and Tylo, as well as test out an Eve lander.

MSV Venturer VNT-050:

The Venturer has completed 3 missions; 2 to Duna and Ike, and 1 to Dres. The ship can manage Duna and Ike without needing to refuel, but Dres required a large fuel tanker to follow at a later transfer window. The ship was commissioned as part of the Venturer Program, and every mission has been successful (mostly; there has been one fatality :() in getting 5 crew out to their destination for a long stay, and then back to Kerbin. It's future is currently in question, but I'll find some use for it.

MSV Libra LBR-030-B:

I'm not sure I should really be classifying this as a mothership because it is fairly diminutive in size, but the Libra III class science vessel is perfectly capable of flying out to Duna or Eve with a small lander and then returning to Kerbin with the lander still docked. It is one of my most reliable designs, having been around since 0.17, so I won't be decommissioning it at any point in the foreseeable future. It is also used to deploy probes from time to time.

Muddaship? Muddaship!

Okay, so it isn't that big, but it should be able to get to Duna and back easily (first test is tomorrow). Only about 2500 m/s with full payload, because of the "cosmetic" heat shield and the use of LV-30 for main propulsion ("full payload" being about 20 tons: sample return probe, 1-kerbal lander, crew transfer vehicle and 2 MMUs). The docking ports are behind those panels. Lab included.

Also, I haven't named it yet - can anyone think of something good? :)

Neither big or pretty, but this was my first attempt and it got me to Ike duna and home, and i flew at the wrong time... the secret is, be highly modular, you want to chuck stuff away as you go.

Hello darkness my old friend...

I'm holding out for a whackjob craft. (although elendrake's vanguard is probably better than any whackjob ships)

Currently, I'm working on a project of mine called the "Arachne" a large, pendulum propelled mothership to be sent to duna.

Ravenchant- how about calling it the "Rune"? (don't flatter yourself rune, not after you ) or maybe the "raven"

The Bow section of my duna mothership "Arachne" sitting on the launchpad.

currently having a lot of problems getting it past the 10,000m mark, and it tends to shake itself apart during launch

Oh wow, it does justice to its name- the lower structure looks like a web. I wonder what the finished ship will look like! :)

Also- thanks for the suggestions, ZodiaK! Though I already have a set of corvus vehicles (meaning raven in Latin), so that's right out... ended up naming it IPV Jurij Vega, after a semi-famous scientist. However, the "rune" idea is excellent and will get used soon(ish) - with more than 20 of them, even a grand tour should be possible within a single naming scheme. "Sowilo" and "Hagalaz" in particular simply sound too good to pass up :P

Meanwhile, my last true mothership dates to .20.2 I know right. I have failed this thread. ;.;

Pic: ui8p.png

Back then I couldn't orbit it. Fuel module weighed over 150 tons. Now, with tweakables (and possibly Ubiozur's part welding plugin), I can drasticly reduce the weight (and part count) of each module to less than 30 tons (maybe 40 for the drive stage, 8 2.5m nervas).

I am planning on recreating it and actually using it for a lathe colonization mission.
