Space station usefulness by location and type of orbit

Recommended Posts

On a whim I launched a space station core destined for low Mun orbit, thinking eventually to turn it into a fuel/science stop for landers or waypoint for longer range missions. The problem is, I fudged the transfer a bit and ended up having to put it in a retrograde orbit. Rather than send a propulsion module out to dock with the station and turn it around, so far I've left it.

The question is, is there any particular use for a station in this scenario? Other than having to match other ships' trajectories to it, is its usefulness not affected? Not to mention I'd hate to send out a correction mission only to end up annihilating both craft. :S

It will be a small problem for any ship destined for (or returning from) the surface, as they'll lose the rotational boost from being on a moving surface. However, Mun rotates VERY slowly due to only facing one side at Kerbin (so it rotates at its orbital period).

Considering the dV to fix it, I'd say leave it.
