KSP 32-bit - why?

Recommended Posts

It looks like KSP is running at 3.5 or 3.6 gigs for me (seems to be lots of paging going on too) - why isn't KSP 64 bit? It seems the game would benefit from this. Search is useless on those keywords, is there any info about this topic?

Would it be too much trouble to offer an optional 64 bit version?

AFAIK only Linux (and perhaps MaCOSX) have a x64 version. Rumors say that SQUAD probably will make a x64 version of KSP who knows when. Apparently, performance tweaking is less important than Career Mode and Tech Tress.

KSP is 32bit because Unity (the engine it is based on) is 32bit. The 64bit version of Unity is still unstable on Windows and Mac machines. The Linux version of Unity is stable and there is a 64bit version of KSP for linux. Unfortunately, this is not something Squad can do much about.

It's a shame for a C# framework ...

Not! It is the superority of the open systems: much easier to repair something, if you can see, how it is really works.

Garoad: I suggest you try rather Linux Mint. By my personal experience it faster, +15% in framerates. (there is even faster distros, but mostly not for Linux virgins)

Hello there :)

I think we can lock it at this. The subject has been brought up a lot in the past and the answer remains the same pending any changes on Unity's end (speaking of which, a funny side-note because Ubuntu was brought up: Ubuntu's default Desktop Environment is also called "Unity", no relation at all, though. :P). The hostility against Squad and the "decision" not to do 64bit on Windows and OSX at this point is also completely unnecessary and I will now publicly warn against this: Expect actions to be taken for repeat offenses, as this issue is well-documented and you all should know better by now.
