I lost everything :(

Yesterday I was playing as usual, finished something and quit the game, nothing weird. Today morning I opened the game to play for a while and the game was stuck in the loading screen, restarted the game and the same, restarted the pc and the same, checked the log window and it was spammed with null reference errors. Weird because I didn't installed anything and played with the same config for more than a week.

Anyway, reinstalled the game from scratch and the game started ok, but the saves were corrupted. I checked the persistent file of my carreer save and it was cut at 2kB.

I'm sad I lost all my progress in career, but also I'm puzzled as how it could happened, without touching any config or installing anything.

Well, I'll have to start from zero again, maybe try some new mods

Call me weird, but I keep my saves in version control (mercurial specifically)

Everything is structured text, so it works better than you'd think ;)

Hm. I've only ever seen that happen before when there's a third program meddling about while KSP's trying to save. On Windows, it's usually DEP or an antivirus.

DEP isn't a program or third-party, just enforcement that code not execute from data area. If KSP tries that something is already broken and DEP just saved you from a buffer overflow or the like.

At a few gigs for the game . Might I just recomend you just copy the entire KSP folder over ( provided you are on a PC )

a DVD should hold the entire game and then all the mods one can dream . ( thank you KSP team for light game code ! )

If you are on a mac ..... Use Time machine for your entire drive .

Linux. Well heck you have to be a BOFH to use it and lets face it . If you can make Linux run you can probly figure out a Cron-job for it .

Just *looks around* edit your science back in

WHAT? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A

go ahead man, it's super easy

DESPICABLE PRACTICE DISCUSSED ON THIS SITE

just scroll down to the 'sci {' under SCENARIO and enter as much as you want

AND YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED FOR EVEN SUGGESTING IT.

Or you know you could just rename your last quicksave file 'persistent' and be free of any such shenanigans, like what Sirine was suggesting.

Yea well, I decided to get in sandbox and make some horrible (aka, lost of DV, aka MOAR orange tanks) to finally visit jool, and play with some mods in the meanwhile

Gotta wait for .24 to start career again, hope they fix the NaN kracken by then.

I had my main Career save get corrupted just last week (running OS X here). What's odd is that even if you have multiple save files present, even if just one of them is corrupted it will prevent the "Resume Game" dialog from even opening. Fortunately I had a Time Machine backup of my entire /saves folder from only an hour or so before and was able to recover easily.
