  1. Only 2 words: Scott Manley. Watch his videos and all your questions will be answered.
  2. Indie games on Steam are usually around 20-30€. Seeing a 40€ pricetag on an indie game raises the expectations. Looking at screenshots and videos (low LOD settings, obvious repetitive textures, "dead" planets) 40€ seem a bit much to ask. Especially with games like Elite Dangerous around (50€). I think everybody here loves KSP and has no problem with it's price, but i'm with the TO here: The entrance barrier could be a little too high.
  3. Well, you need to seperate 2 very big chunks of people: a) The ones who already sank over 500 hours in the game and have been to all places already Those with <100 hours of gameplay still dreaming of a successful Duna mission (That engineer mod showing you dV and TWR of stages should of course be in the vanilla version) The "newcomers" to KSP are absolutely in no need of mods. The "elders" surely should look out for mods to increase the gameplay experience.
  4. So many excuses for bad planning. I'm not bashing on Squad/KSP, just stating the obvious. Millions of workers/departments/companies around the world meet deadlines with no problems and still manage to deliver high quality products. The gaming industry was like that too before patching became a viable option and publishers forced development studios into impossible release schedules and consumers accepted downloading 20 Gb on patches and basically unfinished products until 12 months after "release". Sure, things can go wrong, but this is also the case for all other businesses.
  5. 100% Vanilla. Waiting for Squad to patch all the usefull information tools in, tho. But as with every game - once you surpassed a certain limit, mods become a neccesity.
  6. 1. Although in theory 2, but i never use the sandbox one
  7. Career mode and hopefully not failing too badly
  8. Looking at games like Payday 2 that are now on patchlevel 60 or something, i can't agree on that KSP is one of those games that professional reviewers have a problem with because they have no chance ever discovering what the game is about. They need to put hours over hours in to just get to Mün. Usually professional reviewers stay the hell away from such games. It's not like there aren't thousands other games to review.
  9. I don't know ... For one i love grinding and having to overcome limitations, but then i also hate being restricted when i have something specific in my mind. Me being someone who hasn't yet sucessfully landed and returned from Duna there's lots of rewarding things to be done in sandbox mode. Career and Science mode just limits you in the beginning, it doesn't change the challenges of the game.
  10. aab But basically, i'll do like Scott told me to do it
  11. Rule #1 on youTube: don't pick a name with lots of "x"s or "0"s or "1"s in your name
  12. Hmmm, after reading that "biggest youTuber playing KSP = Markiplier" i'm rather astonished PewDiePie hasn't played it. Will check out Bob Fitch, never heard of him.
  13. Scott Manley has 370.000 subscribers and 77.535.000 views. In my books he has the best videos for learning KSP and enough science stuff to even learn something about physics Danny is far off with less than 120.000 subs. I also enjoyed HOCGaming's videos and you can still watch them if you haven't heard of him yet, but he stopped making KSP videos.
  14. Me being still rather new to the game (70 hours) it isn't even worth playing less than an hour, as this might be just enough to design a rocket and maybe get it to one of Kerbin's moons. So it's about 1-3 hours in most cases.
  15. As i consider using MechJeb as cheating, i did all of the above without any guidance (except from Scott Manley's videos ofc)
  16. Never heard of this stream But after reading this thread, i absolutely don't feel the urge to watch it
  17. Tough one ... The satisfaction of accomplishing something damn complicated... ... and Jebbediah's happy face when things are going well
  18. KSP is in it's own genre. This list of "Space games" covers what? 6 genres? RTS, Moba, simulation, exploration, 6-axis shooter, MMO I absolutely see no game second to KSP in that list, and also not on my games radar for the upcoming years.
  19. My only problem with KSP's fidelity is the very low LOD settings. to be honest i haven't checked the graphic settings in a long time, so maybe there's already something or we can fiddle around in the ini files. But beside that i think it's fine. I don't want junk like DoF, Lens Flares, color tint or other "cinematic effects". Wherre possible i disable it anyways. (That said - it of course wouldn't hurt if there's an option to enable those things)
  20. I'm around PC gaming for too long to still fall the "Mod Hype". 99.5% of all "mods" are a buggy, half finished mess if they even make it out of the "just starting to understand how things work but still release to public" garbage bin. Even in a very modding friendly environment, DLCs still stand their ground. Squad would just have to add enough value to make it worth it. Just twisting numbers around and adding some cheap skins? Will not impress. But high quality content created by the team that is as familiar with the engine and the game as nobody else? Yes, i will happily pay for that content. Just because many consumers these days have a very loose wallet (buying Season Passes without even knowing which kind of DLCs are about to come or accepting Day-1 DLC) and big publishers not seeing the need of high quality content and therefore order their dev studios to release cheap junk doesn't mean that DLCs are bad. Back in the days we called them expansion packs and happily paid for them. Nothing wrong with that in my books. Good and solid work deserves to be paid.
  21. Even HOC Gaming stopped playing KSP. KSP is around for so long and there's only so much challenge... To me there are 3 big milestones in KSP: * Get in orbit around Kerbin * Get to Mün and Minmus * Get to other planets Once you've been to all celestial bodies, the game is basically over. Two things that would extend KSP's lifetime by a lot: * Stable and official multiplayer (i assume many like me simply don't want to bother with installing mods) * A way to conquer new worlds. Give us other solar systems, let us relearn launches, give back the exploration aspect. Maybe even - my wish - give us the option to create solar systems. No interplanetary dV or phase calculations. We'll have to do it all by ourselves again.
  22. I know, i know, just install the games you actively play on the SSD, but hey, i play lots of games (And my SSD only has about 20Gb left)
  23. Getting to and returning from Duna isn't a problem if you don't overbuild your rocket (like many beginners do). The real problem is the time window that you need to hit to actually get there. So http://ksp.olex.biz and Space Center forwarding at a rate of 10.000 are your friends. When it comes to designing your lander either watch others doing it, or rely on your judgement and luck
  24. Why would you want an end? Kerbal Space Program forever! I'd rather have an option to create random solar systems so i will never run out of new challenges
