OK, I give up. Where are the badlands??

I've looked at the maps, I've done polar orbits, and still can't find the badlands. Can someone post a screenshot of their location or something? I've found every other biome, but the badlands stubbornly elude me.

Hi Armchair,

IIRC, the Badlands are located on the Black spots on the right half of the map.

Have you already checked that?

I'm only picking up highlands when I orbit over those areas. Guess I'll jump in a plane and see if I can catch them that way.

If you're in orbit you'll be passing over the area at high speed, and if you move your mouse across the location of 'The Badlands' on Kerbal Maps you'll see that you get occasional 'Highlands' whilst doing so. A plane would probably be easier

Took me days to find a spot that would register as "The Badlands" even with the biome maps up on another monitor. It'd be nice if you could maybe see what biome is under your mouse cursor?

They're quite a small area. Make sure you've got some orbital inclination; you won't pass over them in an equatorial orbit.

The badlands are the mountainous areas.

I did finally find them. The circular mountain all by itself has brownish grass around it. Those are the badlands.

I usually launch with a heading around 106° when i want to fly over the badlands

One of the ScanSat instruments tells you the biome I think. Set an action group to Science! when you see it change to badlands

That claim TOTALLY depends on the hight of your orbit! Go high enough and your second orbit will be over the desert instead of the badlands.

Right, sorry. As low as possible, 70-72km or thereabout.

Look for the one volcanic crater on Kerbin.

Its deep in the mountains of the big continent.

Plenty of badlands on its western slopes, and a very visual landmark from orbit.

Pretty sure the badlands is that zone just south of Loch Modan.

I finally hit the Badlands tonight using a modified sub-orbital booster. Bob Kerman did wonderfully, plunking down in the lake near -13, 60. For some reason, even though he landed in the drink, it registered as the Badlands biome, and thus got a whopping 40 science. Had temp, pressure, 2x goo, 1x science junior boxes.

FYI...one of the recent versions of MechJeb can provide a readout of the surface biome you're over, under the Surface Information window IIRC. You don't have to use the autopilot, just the stats.
