What if an alien race had five fingers, just like us... But they used the middle finger to greet, unlike us. What do you think would happen? Would we just assume they treated the middle finger as a weapon of mass destruction too? Or would we be like, "Oh, well they just have different ways of doing things." Also, imagine a species of creatures that look like dogs, but standing up! Holy crap I am scared about the future.

maybe aliens don't need oxygen like us, they could just use hydrogen or methane to breathe :/

I know this is just supposed to be a funny thread. However, I would assume that those aliens would have cultures as diverse as our own. As stated above, there would probably be different people whom might find that offensive in their own race. Therefore, they would most likely just study whichever culture they felt like doing first contact with and then proceed to offer the customary greeting.
