DV for Eeloo mission?

Recommended Posts

How much DV does it take to get from LKO to Eeloo, land, and return to Kerbin? (My craft currently has about 11Km/s DV, but I don't know how much I need.) I already know how to get there, as I have done it before, but I don't know what it takes to land and return, as I have only ever put a ship into orbit around Eeloo.

I think 11 km/s is way more than you will actually need (unless you waste). Transfer there takes less than 4000, transfer back takes about 1000 (assuming aerobraking) and landing is easy, Eeloo gravity is abou the same as Mun's.

Just send a mission to Eeloo on its way.

It seemed like a good orbit. Interception just at the point where Eeloos orbit gets inside Jools orbit and inclination at that point just on the plane.

2000 m/s ejection burn and 100 m/s mid-flight correction burn.

Can't tell you yet how big the injection burn is, since I am not there yet. The maps say something like 2000 m/s but I will tell you when I get there.

Which hopefully will be tonight.

Update on my Eeloo mission.

Like I said, ejection burn from Kerbin was 2000 m/s. Mid course correction for intercept was 100 m/s.

Injection burn is (and executed right now) 1900 m/s.

That makes the transfer all in all: 4000 m/s.

(Still am somewhat impressed that it worked so well)

EDIT: Oh, and the transfer time was about 300 days.
