An Extended Vacation

Recommended Posts

Eve slingshot didn't work as planned. So Jeb wins one more year in solar orbit until the next enconter with Eve. Also, questionable amount of fuel... It's very likely that getting back to Kebin will require another refueling.

At least Bill and Bob got home after visiting Eeloo and Dres.

___

Double Eve slingshot gave perfect Moho intercept. So Jeb got to the surface with enough fuel to go home!

So, 1 more transfer and await the video report.

What do we have:

 Jeb on Eeloo and Moho

 The same lander

 No orbital construction. Only 1 refueling from another craft. But th lander leaves its external tank in orbit.

 Dres landing and double Eve slingshot

 Refueling and crew swap in Dres orbit.

 2 crafts 115 t at LKO each. 3 kerbals in each.

 Full stock

P.S. Mission finished, checking recording: 10 h, 120 GB. I wonder how much of interesting footage will be there

P.P.S. Screenshot from the tracking station with flag planting times. First launch was on day 60, total length 4 years 112 days.

Finally edited this...

My entry for the challenge:

6 Kerbals, 4 planets, 3 landings, 2 crafts, 1 Jebediah Kerman... Liftoff!!!

Updated video with voice comment

As for Dres, sending second craft to either Moho or Eeloo would be not very efficient, so if you are presented with 2 stupid options, do something crazy!

P.S. Spacecraft exchange thread

that's two separate missions, unless I missed something in your super lengthy boring video.

the challenge here is to land on both Eeloo and Moho in 1 mission.

It is the same craft and the same Jeb in pilot's seat. It just got a bit refueled in Dres orbit. And crew swap was one of the additional challenges. The second craft was just a delivery flight, however they really are the same design.

All I see is you have one rocket going to Eeloo, and then on a return trajectory, and another going to Moho. and then I don't know what happens after because your video is too damn long.

That is definitely two separate missions. the challenge is to leave and land on both planets with the same lander, not same design, same lander, and you have two landers here.

The mission is to get Jeb to Moho and Eeloo before returning to Kerbin. Pony express style is a valid way to do that (though you'd have to give up a few achievements in the process). Even using the same lander isn't required by the basic mission.

Alchemist, the only point of confusion I had with you video was where you cut out the fuel transfer. Since the two craft are otherwise identical, it's a little confusing as to which you ended up taking to Moho. It looks to me like you did take the original ship though. (The only difference it'd make would be whether or not you got the reused lander achievement.)

So it looks like you got 1580 tons launched (although a shot of the mass of the ship on the launch pad would be good) and got the reused lander, the crew transfer, the two flybys and the no orbital construction achievements. Plus I think I'll add one for landing on a third planet because that's pretty impressive to me.

I wish I hadn't forced myself to avoid mutually exclusive achievements, but it's too late to make that drastic of a change now. (Something to remember for next time though.)

If I swapped crafts places or just gave second craft's external tank to the fist one it really wouldn't change the rest of the mission... That's the problem of using the same design. And it reset the MET timer of the main craft after that docking.

However, you can see that the main craft didn't have RCS ports on the external tank - I added them only to the second one, because it needed to dock to the first with the tank attached. Also I forgot to deploy the solar panels on the second craft

  • 1 year later...

1 - Complete the mission. That is, land one kerbal (Jeb would be appropriate) on both Eeloo and Moho. Then return all kerbals launched, including kerbals launched for sub-missions, safely to Kerbin's surface. Anything else goes unless you're going for some of the other achievements. (All valid entries must complete this achievement.)

2 - Make all landings with the same lander. This means the lander cannot be staged until after the last landing.

3 - During the mission, fly by at least two different planets (other than Kerbin, Moho and Eeloo). No need to do more than enter their SoI.

4 - Rendezvous with another ship somewhere outside of Kerbin's SoI to change out at least two crew members. At least one of the original kerbals must remain with the original ship. All kerbals must eventually be returned safely to Kerbin's surface. (This does mean your ship must carry at least 3 kerbals.)

5 - Do the entire mission with no orbital construction. You can dock for refueling or crew transfer if you separate before making significant maneuvers. Parts already docked to the ship during the initial launch don't count, so you can dock and undock your lander freely.

6 - Land at least 5 kerbals on each landing. Strictly speaking, these don't have to be the same 5 kerbals. All kerbals launched must be returned alive to the surface of Kerbin for it to be a valid entry.

7 - Land on a third body outside of the Kerbin SoI. That is, land somewhere besides Moho, Eeloo, Kerbin, Mun or Minmus. To get this and the lander reuse achievement, you must use the same lander for all three landings. To get this and the 5 kerbals achievement, you must land 5 kerbals in all three landings.

Holy geeping mother of the Kraken, I accidentally completed this challenge and got all 7 (I think) sunglasses.

1 - Jeb landed on both Moho and Eeloo.

2 - Jeb landed the same model of lander on both Moho and Eeloo. (The lander involved staging, so I needed two of them.)

3 - I entered all of the planetary SOIs.

4 - Did this in Pol orbit (one kerbal one way, one kerbal the other way). (And at Eve, but no one was left behind.)

5 - Nothing docked to a ship that it didn't originate from.

6 - A different kerbal landed on each of Jool's moons, but that sunglasses might have meant land 5 kerbals on the same planet/moon, in which case, I didn't.

7 - I landed on all the bodies.

As for the weight though... it totaled over 10,000 tons. I might do this challenge with ions later.
