Nice shuttle zekes

I was wondering what's worth an airfoil shape in FAR, I made it out of a bunch of small hardpoint to provide also a cabling platform with 16 different spots and also because it's massless.

Here's the data regarding its aerodynamic compared to a regular cylindrical tank.

It seems that the drag increase is less important than the angular force and lift increase

Aaaand problem.

I figured I'd conduct an engine test. This thing isn't going anywhere, but not because the engines don't work, noooo. Two problems (on top of the lag):

1. The ship wobbles like a b*tch with the engines fired up, even with the struts in place.

2. The reactors I installed into the engine pods don't work. I took one of the 1.25m reactors from Near Future Electrical, modified the config file hoping I could get around the radiator requirements, and then stuck one in each engine pod. They were to be the primary power source. They don't start up because of the lack of radiators. Uggghhghgh.

Needless to say, Stargazer is a failure. A very pretty failure, but a failure nonetheless. I'll get to work disassembling it and bringing the pieces back down to Kerbin so I can at least recover some of the cost of constructing this thing, and then I'll look into alternative methods of producing an Endurance-esque ship (that hopefully won't kill my framerate), because I'm not giving up on this idea

At least I got something good out of this whole project, though; the Ranger II. I love that little spaceplane :D

I didn't fancy enduring that lag for much longer, anyway. Get it? Enduring? I'll show myself out...

my new sp+ launcher is almost finished and it turned out in my first (-don't laught-) succesfull duna mission (playing ksp since 0.15)

2 Staged with lander that is capable to reorbit duna and come back with the transfer module

at the moment it has 340 parts and need some improvements to be final but this "beta" work fine

I have been inspired by a combination of Orion and Buzz Aldrin's Space Manager to deviate from my usual air-hogging monstrosities.

Buzz tells me there's a Russian program which intended to land the whole, two man, return vehicle on the surface which looked interesting so I've been inspired by that to start this.

I tried myself on a Cupcake inspired Dropship SSTO

The fuel lines still need some rerouting.

I was able to reach orbit, but not with much fuel left. No Idea how Cupcake gets that huge range out of his dropships.

Cupcake makes his crafts as light as possible, and usually uses quite a lot of intakes.

And he clips tanks inside each other. Cupcake recently released VTOL masterclass part 2 on YouTube, where the construction of his craft is covered in detail.

[stock Craft][.25]

I am currently working on the largest single object I have ever launched. This started as a large space station for use in high Kerban orbit and has now transitioned to a deep space exploration vessel. It has command and science stations for six and crew quarters for up to 12 additional Kerbals, I plan to keep the crew complement to about 11. The four MKII cargo bays in the center hull each carry their own separate payloads for the mission. Two bays are dedicated to Comm stats that will be dropped in route for future communications needs. One bay will contain a small lander/shuttle for a single Kerbal, the design for this is still being worked out. The last bay is for all your happy Kerbal science needs. This will be for my Career mode but I do all my build and testing in sand box before the mission starts. Part count is over 300 and I am in process of making it more efficient.

Just a question, why not making your own crafts when they are easy to make and without specific skill constraints like "Legal Clip Ability" or precise replicas that would involve time ?

I mean yep, they're cute, but you can easily rebuild them with some personnalisation no ?

No offense (I'm French, I could sound rude while i'm not ^^), juste wondering :)

Eorin, nice replica, looks sharp ! :D

I sometimes try to replicate something from a picture, only to find my craft is inferior, or not quite what it said on the box. I do sometimes download a craft, and tear it apart, to see how they made it. Both methods are very good to help you learn new techniques, which is useful for a designer like me. I find myself spending more time in the VAB than actually in flight. The only reason I mostly fly is to kill some time in career/budget, or to test my latest creation.

But long ago I did use craft made by other people, because back then I wanted to fly awesome looking stuff, but was unable to build it myself. I eventually practiced and practiced some more, until I was somewhat pleased with my own creations. There are however also a lot of people who don't have the time or patience to learn all this stuff, and therefore keep using other people's craft.

I hope that answers you question, and remember: To each their own :)
