SaturnianBlue
The Prinz Eugen hull has now been complete, and the whole ship currently floats well and reaches speeds that are about the same as the actual thing. My next thing is to build is the deck (it's still a place holder now), and the first floor.

Rune
11 minutes ago, Majorjim said: What was broken in the BIAB? Nothing at all! But as always, I have found out I can do it better. The new base should come in two C.R.A.D.L.E. packs instead of three, have just as many modules, and be a mere 75 parts once deployed (!), with a new smaller science-less rover (let's face it, to build the thing you needed the science tree maxed out anyway) that brings it to an even 100 parts (!!). It will also have lighter C.R.A.D.L.E.s, and a shrouded option where the whole thing fits in a single launch in a basic configuration (so I can call it Base-In-A-Box, legit), and another slightly different file so you can do expansion launches that will actually work, from the point of view of modules/corridors, without you having to actually think about it or duplicating redundant modules (labs and assembly rovers, basically, you don't need more than one of those per base). All in all, a major revision of all deployment modes and modules, a long time in the making, smoother and easier to use, without loosing any functionality and expanding on the options. Oh, and I'm also whipping up something special for the launcher... Maybe it will be the one that makes you try it out? Rune. Basically, I started working on it when I released the old one. Majorjim!
Just now, Rune said: Maybe it will be the one that makes you try it? Yeah I just saw it was some new modules on your main thread. I am, at present not building for infrastructure. I think it will limit my KSP creativity and time. The reason I build one unrelated thing after one unrelated thing is it allows me the most creative freedom. I am however thinking about some infrastructure ideas that may or may not see the light of day. I like to try new things and ideas. It stirs the creative juices like nothing else. Rune
47 minutes ago, Majorjim said: You work slowly man! Is that due to the career thing? Well, that, and I work on everything at once. I test, let the thing sit for a while, come up with new ideas, get thrown on a tangent with another completely different build... only when a design is pretty much frozen and has actually launched a few times without changes do I release it. And the BIAB is, by far, the most complicated build I have done, the first version of it having been built in pre-porkjet days (I don't even remember which version). In a way, the Orca itself is part of the upgrade, since I have to test everything to go with it, for example. Remember the old Eagle? And yeah, then there is the career thing, which basically means I will only test it in Kerbin, Mun, and Minmus, and that will have to serve for analogues to everywhere else*. *Everywhere else but Tylo, the Sun and Jool, of course, and with the usual transport fees applicable. xD Rune. This is my magnum opus, and as such it'll never be really, really done. Edited February 15, 2016 by Rune
Rune
Well crap. I swear to Kod I only hit send once, then reread and started editing. The forum software promptly proceeded to double post for me, and double post on the double post, even. Rune. The new forum software hates crappy connections. pTrevTrevs
Sea trials of USS Gato. It looks like it sits about right in the water, and makes 15 m/s (maybe more) at full speed, but right now I think all those wings are making its buoyancy too high to allow diving. The periscopes retract and there are seats for three lookouts in the conning tower, as well as two more seats on the deck gun. I know of a trick to make ballast tanks where you put an ore tank in a cargo bay and open and close the bay in the water to change buoyancy, does anyone know if this works with service bays as well? Mk 2 cargo bays are a little too big to fit on the sub, and Mk 3 cargo bays are... well, also too big...

SaturnianBlue
The deck and first floor of my Prinz Eugen Heavy Cruiser replica are finished! My next job is to build the next few floors. The ship is now at 492 parts, which makes my question if even KSP 1.1 will be able to handle Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, since I only expect the part count to increase massively from now on too! Rune
Hum. Who knew that the easiest way of making a SSTO recoverable was just bolting some wings to it? Anyhow, once I saw that was totally a thing, I went about making the rocket, you know, cool-looking: 40mT to orbit, >50 if you slap some kickbacks to it for the full 1.5 staging experience. Which ends up being about 525√/kg, 740√/kg with the kickbacks, if you nail the runway recovery and I did my math right. It's not what the Claymore does (187.5√/kg, I checked for reference), but hey, it's nothing to be sneered at, and it's a fast ride to orbit. Landing it, though, takes skill. Wing loading is ridiculous! Rune. Coming soon™, as part of other things, 'cause it's my new standard launcher. Yeah, while fixing the deck can't be too hard, the hull is really complex, especially on these big ships. I'll probably try and clean the seams a bit, but I doubt they can be totally cleaned up. TheSpaceManiac
Was working on the Spitfire, entirely redesigned the tail There's one very serious issue, though. I can't get it to fly on the usual "Juno" engines hidden in the tail because the elevons overheated and exploded. Any ideas on what I should do?
