MET times...

Okay, this will probably sound crazy, but, is anyone else upset when a MET for a single mission <satellites, stations and bases do not count, as they are objects meant to stay in orbit or in a single location for long time> goes 1 year or more? What I mean is, does it bug anyone that, when you say, send Jeb to Eeloo or Jool or someplace similar, to see your MET from launch to return to kerbin take a year or more?

I mean for me, I try to make my missions take 18 months at the MOST, and when my trip to Eeloo took nearly 4 years TOTAL, it bothered me to no end. I felt oddly as if I had failed, even though, my mission was a staggering success.

Doesn't sound crazy at all because it bothers me just as well. I like to use Kerbal Alarm Clock and not to timewarp for months and months at a time. That way some of my deeper space probes arrive after weeks of playing; I like it that way. Although I also have a savegame where I do allow myself to endlessly time warp.

I don't mind with probes, but it really bothers me with manned missions. I feel sorry for the little guys cramped up in small pods for so long so I try to have extra command pods for living quarters on long missions.

I try to find the most optimal transfer time from Kerbin to destination, but often return sooner than optimal to save waiting for ages for the right window That costs more fuel and maybe the actual transfer is longer too, but at least I'm not waiting in orbit for half a year or more.

Would be nice to see some other players' times for missions to other planets. I just did a Laythe and back in 2 years, but I've no idea if that's a good time or not.

In real life it takes months to get to Mars and that's nearby in comparison to Jupiter. The Kerbal universe is scaled down, along with travel times as a result, but it's still a loooong way. Eeloo is even further because of its crazy orbit.

Unless you have a life support mod it's nothing to worry about, and even then it's only something to worry about if you didn't provide the Kerbals with 8 years+ worth of food :P

One year out, one year back is a reasonable trip to Jool and back. The optimal transfer would take 385 days.

My approach to Joolian moon missions is to have a permanent base in orbit around Laythe, so once they get out there, the Kerbals get to stay in a nice large space station and take a plane down to the surface anytime they want to experience gravity.

In theory I could bring them back to Kerbin, but I never seem to do so.

Now imagine the same thing, but this time in real life. With real humans. Imagine all the factors to be considered...

I just did a Pol landing and return, in one launch, and on the way back did a flyby of laythe, tylo, and vall, it took about 550 days. Before i really knew how to get to other planets (like i really was doing it wrong) i sent a two kerbal one way trip to Duna, and it took 14 years. of course i was still happy, i did't really know what i was doing.

The thing that bugs me is that the MET is in earth seconds, but a Kerbal day is only a fraction of an earth day! And a kerbal year is a fraction of an earth year, so when I'm roleplaying as the director of my space program, which system do I use in my press interviews!?! :P

Yes, I roleplay and do fake interviews with myself in my head about the state of my space program. Deal with it

here is what bugs me about MET time. I set up for a planetary transfer with mechjeb. It tells me it will be 35 days before I can do that. I can't warp super fast since I am in low orbit so I switch to another craft that can warp faster. I warp 34 days and a few hours ahead. I switch back and I discover I missed the window. This has happened many times. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
