The Main Problem With Kerbal Space Program Is....

You obviously misread what I put... I was 100% saying that "moar boosters" wasn't the way to go. I use aerobraking all the time. I try to pare my rockets down as much as possible.

Oh and the things you need to look at below orbit is thrust-to-weight ratios while once you are outside orbit you need to look at delta-V. Noobies can look at an engine with a crappy thrust to weight and dismiss it too easiliy where in actual fact it can rock in orbit (just look at the nuclear rocket for example). It can be crap for lifting to orbit but once out of the gravity well it kicks ass... It's even good for Mun ops. I use that engine on all my Mun tugs because I never run out of fuel lol.

I get that, I was talking specifically about planetary returns, where you are forced to build a fairly substantial rocket. Isn't a nuclear engine a pain to land on the Mun? I would have thought that a NERVA is a bit excessive as well. I'm pretty sure you could build a lighter design using 2-3 stages and smaller parts.

The thrust to mass ratio is generally only important for ascents/landings (Delta-V is also very important there as well), but TMR can also be important for interplanetary transfers where longer burns can be much more inefficient (in so much as the period of your burn is proportional to TMR).

The main problem with KSP is the lack of a 64bit client for windows (UNITY Issue) how long will we be stranded with this horrible 3.5 gb memory limit there seems to be little or NO information about what the problem is or if unity is even working on it and when we may see one available for testing or release, its like everyone just sticks there head in the sand like ostridges and ignores the problem if your a mod junkie like me then its a constant battle for memory.

I have to agree! KSP's community is not only the best modding community I've seen but also the most Mature (compared to other gaming forums) and friendliest. The community alone is by far the best I've been a member of and with Squad on top of it all listening to what we want and adding what we want to the game just makes it even better!

KSP's community is merely young and isolated due to its high standards. Wait some more, you'll see a forum filled with elitists that will not allow new players to settle.

Also, SQUAD's attitude upon game development is very problematic.

In other words; the game itself is great, but the community and the development team sometimes can be eyesores .

I'm not sure that I'd agree with your assessment. I am a very skilled player, but I would never rub that in, or be annoyed with a new player for not understanding the concepts that are now commonplace to me. I have seen no such behaviour. If you have experienced this, I will say that it is anomalous and that it should not happen to you in the future. In regards to the dev team: they ignore large portions of their playerbase, but it is the most financially prudent solution. People that already have the game do nothing for Squad's bank account. Gotta make the learning curve less steep for new players. You can't fault them for this because financial struggle for Squad means no more KSP for EVERYONE. I hope some of this has shone light on KSP's Modus Operandi.

P.S. I guess you can get away with dirty names if they aren't in English lol. EDIT: Nvm. Google Translate wins again!

I can't imagine many people being condescending to players trying to learn the game. It took me a long while before I became reasonably accomplished and I'd be happy to help anyone who was trying to familiarise themselves with the same concepts.

The only thing that I think could be a problem in terms of self-righteousness is the whole "is MechJeb cheating?" argument. I have to say I have seen a couple of people on the forums being a bit disparaging towards MechJeb users. I think most of the community will rise above it though.

tntristan12, I agree with everything you've said here with the exception of your opening statement. No, I'm not a Call of Duty or Madden player but, I am an idiot! I do lack that level of knowledge and engineering. Hell, when I started playing this game some six months ago, I thought Delta V was an Oldsmobile! I build, I crash and I burn consistently, but I keep coming back for more. I lurk the forum, getting ideas and basic concepts from all you "Master Race Guys". In short, I'll probably be playing this game for a long time despite my inability to "Do the math".

Skyhook, your opening sentiment is beautiful. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the KSP community is as passionate as they come. There is no other community around that is as helpful, articulate, understanding or helpful, especially to newcomers. As for the dev team, while there's always a certain balance that must be struck between pleasing the community, being welcoming to potential new players and placing what they, themselves want to see in the game, at the end of the day, what ultimately matters most is making a fun game.

It's Ad Astra Per Aspera, typed in Korean.

The translator is merely translating it wrong, although I should have used "íâ€â€ž" or "í¼" instead of "페".

So, it's my fault if you were offended.

Which is why I always trust Harv to make the best decisions possible. I don't always agree with him but it's HIS baby and he just wants it to be prosperous. And judging by the hours I have spent in the VAB and in space(~1,000), it is :)

I wasn't offended, just tickled by Google Translate's translation. For obvious reasons I won't repeat it here, just know that it's pretty funny lol

I just love the game and the community, I have always wanted to work for NASA, or ESA, or another Space Agency, with KSP, I get to run my own, and build, test, and fly it all myself! The mods are amazing, and one of the best things is...

NO COD FANBOYS! Yaay!

Seriously, most forums are mostly immature 9-year olds who feel the need to swear in every post, even if it doesn't make sense.

Just picking up on KSP again after a bit of a break (I think I started with .17 or .18).

Suprised to see Steam say I've only played 29 hours, as it's feel like a lot more (in a good way!).

Just started a new save to try career mode and enjoying it so far, quite fun not having all the toys to play with right away, plus the gap since I last played means I didn't get to orbit straight away. I like the 'science' addition as I think it does create a bit of "what happens if we try to..." thinking,

One of these days I might actually read a tutorial or 2, but for now I'm (as when I first bought it..) going on my little bits of acquired knowledge from being a 'space' geek since an early age (born '72..eek!), and playing with Orbiter on and off for a few years (another one I haven't spent any time on in far too long..)
