KRF Formula K World Championship

I know, it takes skill for Formula K racing, but I would enjoy Drag Racing in another series to see who can make the fastest car possible, which relies pretty heavily on car design, unless it requires user input at different times to make it a fast run.

Drag racing probably wouldn't be as cool as you think. Rovers have a top speed at around 24m/s, which was achievable in the straightaways on these courses. And without a more accurate mission clock, the split times would be so minute that there would probably be a LOT of apparent equal times.

Rocket-powered drag-racers maybe though? I could see that being fun, mostly because of the potential for lots of explosions.

With FAR and RCS boost, I got my car to beyond 50m/s by the end of the runway. But beyond 60m/s your wheels start to break down so you would need a jet or rocket powered sled - and that wouldn't be much different to having a rocket on wheels.

There are already land speed record challenges and similar stuff out there, we're focusing on the actual racing aspect of it all. It's unique and at least we think it's fun ^^

You CAN, I guess. At a glance, there aren't any non-regulation parts on it - I like the use of landing gear as covers, though that must add a lot of unnecessary weight.

FAR is compulsory for this challenge as it allows us to better reflect aero dynamics of race cars AND it helps reduce Infiniglide glitches. If you could sacrifice some of those looks for a lower centre of gravity and possibly extend the wheels further out, you COULD be in business.

Season 2 will bring about tweakable wheel mechanisms as well as a host of other improvements and features which should help with stability and steering issues.

(I have to say that I love your spaceplanes and your ''fixing aircraft'' series on Youtube. My favorite is the procedural wing version of the F-22, it really captures the styling and the spirit of the plane, really good work. I'm sure you can figure out a way to make that car work within the boundaries of Formula-K ;) )

@ Vger - lights ARE coming to the next season of Formula K and subsequent leagues. You will NOT be required to have forward and brake lights on Formula-K cars - as Kyrian said, you will only need flashing rear lights for this particular league (and that's still not set in stone) - but you will be allowed to have as many lights as you want on your vehicle. I see nothing against you putting lights on your car even right now and using it for this season. They do not add any advantage and actually slightly lower the performance of your car through increased electricity consumption, added mass and drag. Not by a lot but still, if you want them, have them ^^

Future ''regular'' car racing leagues will require full lighting for all conditions as will all other kind of Formula-K derivative leagues.

Hang on- I though you could only have 2 Rcs thrusters? He's got 6.

Randomness, try lowering your graphics settings. If that doesn't work, hide all unnecessary lines in persistent trails and remove all crafts except your car from space center. You can also change your physics delta time see if that helps. What's your computer like anyway? Chances are its running lots of stuff in the background which lowers your overall performance.

Oh god don't get me started. My comp's terrible. Seriously, it's really bad. It's running on it's second graphics card, second sound card, third power supply and second hard drive. It's also old and only a single core. And though it has 2gb ram I think as it's still running XP it can't use all of it to run KSP. I've basically given up on winning the Formula K cup. However I'm still going to enter each race. Also, when the other racing leagues start I'll enter them too.

I should also note that I'm now using the Lag reduction mod, which has helped.

Like i said:

(RCS would be adjusted for REGULATIONS of Championships)

Anyway I'll try to fix it for FAR, but without it, it can turn with both rear and front wheels unlocked at 20m/s

With FAR it flips even at 15 m/s ;(

It should be roughly the same with FAR, yes?

How could this be measured?

I'm pretty new to FAR; have read the readme, but really don't know much about it, or how to leverage it. I only use it for this challenge. Maybe attach a probe core to the racer to get readings, but which values matter?

Been working on the race2 submission... trying to get 1 more sec off it.

I think so, but I don't know what is the problem. My craft got more flipable with FAR and it should become less flipable because of downforce of control surcfaces.

Here's car

You can check it in action here:

(don't take it as advertisment. If you do then I will delete this)

Video was speeded up in few moments to people not get bored

See this is it - we are attempting to strike a balance between good looking craft and efficient craft. The more vanity parts you have, the slower you will be. But you WILL need some of those parts for protection etc. As people have already said, substitute the rear fake wings for regular winglets and it should be fine.

Kendin Kerman riding in krr02F-KMk2 completed race 2 with a lap of 1:37 (2:20 - 3:57).

There was a minor kraken encounter near the final turn; not sure if that (or some of the other rough corners Kendin made) counts as a time penalty. If necessary, the course can be re-run.

Everyone, I regret to inform you that I will no longer be taking part in this season's races. School has become a great deal more difficult for me and I will have to retire the KR-01 from racing.

I may also have to ask GROOV3ST3R to upload the races instead of me.

However, next season I'll be able to whoop your collective butts, don't you worry ;)

[edit] I should be fine. BRING IT AWN!

That's the right choice Kyrian -- the school effort will pay off for the long run (KSP will be here still).

Look forward to seeing you after the semester/season is over.

best,

I will still be active on the thread, I just won't be participating.

I also need to write up the updated regulations for next season's Championship.

[EDIT] GROOV3ST3R, would it be possible for you to release Race Three? I'll link it to the OP. Use the format that was used for Race 1 and 2's posts. Thanks in advance!

I don't suppose there's room for a latecomer is there?

If so, I wouldn't be coming in until next race - I've never used Ferram before, so I'm gonna have to spend some time getting used to it.

If you stick around long enough, there will be other similar races that you will be able to enter from the start. As it is, the second race is about to close. You CAN enter, but you won't be able to enter the previous rounds, so you will be at a slight disadvantage. Other than that, I don't see why not. Submit your craft before you apply for any races though, since we will have to take a look at it first.
