Larger parts are coming to KSP!

Well, that probably depends on it's TWR, which appears to be the biggest factor in that determine the ISP in KSP. I would assume that if the TWR is higher than a mainsail, it will have a lower vacuum ISP, like 315.

But... on the other hand, we will almost certainly get the RS-25 engine in the NASA pack.

Vacuum ISP: 452

TWR: 60

Yum XD

Hmm. The ISP and TWR will be dropped quite significantly to balance with stock, and there will probably be a pretty high mass to contend with too. All in all, I say we are probably going to have an engine of ~20-30 TMR, ISP will dropped in VAC, and the ASL ISP will be increased.

I don't think larger parts are needed. A new size set will require a whole bunch of adaptors and matching parts, like reaction wheels and decouplers etc.

I doubt they will be needed for the NASA DLC mission anyhow. Seems you only need to do solar rendezvous and nudge an asteroid. Some improvements to maneuver nodes is all that is needed for that.

just take Novapunch and convert all that into STOCK parts, and good to go honestly. Seems like Tiberion has maintained and updated novapunch really well, I think it should be a no brainer myself.

Just because this fuel tank is bigger does not mean getting anywhere in the Kerbol system will be trivial. It may simply require fewer parts (and hence allow better performance). It is currently possible to SSTO into a Munar encounter or impact (not capture, though) using only mainsails. Using the OP 48-7s engine you could probably manage a capture.

What really matters is that fuel fraction be maintained for fuel tanks (which it likely will, at 8/9) and that the engine not be too insanely powerful in terms of TWR and ISP compared to other engines (and the -7s is already very OP, so it is easy to fit a new engine's specs within that profile). As long as these parts are balanced in those aspects, interplanetary travel will only be easier in that it will require fewer parts (read: less lag) to get into LKO.

Remember: in space bigger is not strictly better. Everything comes down to fuel fractions, ISP, and (only to a small extent, mostly for landings/takeoffs) TWR.
