Space Shuttles: Do you Build/Use Them?

I have tried a few designs, but I found them to have little to no real use over a regular rocket, really. If anyone could tell me why, I'd love to hear it. Is it mostly for easier reentry or something?

Furthermore: since it looks cool, I wanted to go for the actual space shuttle design, and overcoming the center of thrust/center of mass issue was really hard.

I try to make them but as I'm useless at building aircraft I haven't had much success so far

The last time I used a shuttle was to add a module to the space station. But unfortunately the wing hit the habitation module and everything exploded.

I'm pretty sure Jebediah said this to Kennedy who was actually quoting Jeb when he gave his speech.

I'm sure he had to interpret it a bit though, the original script being more like:

"WE CHOOSE TO DO THIS not because it is easy, but because it NEEDS MOAR BOOSTERS. This is a challenge we are willing to accept, one for which we are willing to CRASH AND TRY AGAIN, and one which we intend to equip with MOAR BOOSTERS."

Because theres no currency in the game at the moment. If there were money that you earn in the game and you needed that money to build the ship and you got money for returning it in 1 piece you'll try to get the ship back in a single piece.

If you want to fly shuttle or a model to built yours, i just create a company focus on space shuttle.

They are not perfect but they can bring some cargo to LKO.

Made a few spaceplanes for fun, haven't attempted a shuttle with boosters yet. Not really too big on em, because of the lack of cargo carrying capacity. I will eventually attempt one for the challenge, though. Still fleshing out my knowledge of how spaceplanes work... wanna learn more before I try to step up to a Vertical takeoff type shuttle.

Sure, it required an OMS assist for a TWR 1>, used liquid boosters, and overall didn't really look like the Space Transportation System, but the feeling you get when these things don't crash and fly upward is so awesome

This is my Shuttle based of the Shuttle Scott Manley uses in his interstellar quest series. I use it a fair bit to launch cargo and parts into space because rockets launches are kinda boring to me now. I don't know why, but I enjoy launching this shuttle and flying it a lot more than I do rockets.

The orange fuel tanks with SRB's get her to about 17km's up where the sabres take over (they run from launch but switch to a closed cycle just before dumping the orange tanks) and kick her into orbit. Usually make orbit with about 25% left in the four external tanks.

She a breeze in re-entry. Very stable and having air-breathing engines means i don't have to be overly precise in lining up the runway on decent, although it does save time if i do attempt to line up the KSC. Currently working on designing my next shuttle with the larger cargo modules, but running into issues like the amount of fuel and rockets needed.
