I want mods that are updated with the game.

Im new to this game but i love mods and i know like other games some mods only get updated with the new version of the game once in a blue moon.

What i dont want to do is get 200 hours plus in with loads of cool mod the game updates and mods dont and you lose everything.

So im looking for some mods that are very well made and updated with or soon after the game is.

Right now i want to use Kosmos, mechjeb, ionhybrid pack are they good? are there better. i want big rockets, then cool ion engines is space.

Any help would be great

Thanks Rick

okay... first off: your thread came off <to me at least> as rather pushy and whiny. THAT said, MechJeb is updated for .23 and ready to roll. It was updated and ready with in a week at MOST of when .23 hit. as to the other mods, i do not use them, so, I will not speculate.

all of this said, I will say this: most mods that people use, MechJeb, NovaPunch and the like, get updated quickly if any update is needed. Tiberion <maintainer of the Novapunch mod> did not need to update his mod since .22 hit after it was made .22 ready, and still works quite nicely with .23 with a small patch to fix a tiny glitch in the VAB.

I avoid the use of mods that are part-based - precisely because I don't want the hassle of having to wait for updates.

For mods that provide functionality via parts (engineer, mechjeb), you can use Module Manager to give stock parts those functions built-in - thus avoiding cluttering up your ships with parts.

Welcome to the club MagicRik.

1st off, you have to remember that Mods are created by your fellow fans of KSP, and not by SQUAD. And they have real lives, jobs, school wives/kids that take up their time. Because of that, it's not realistic to expect that most mods will be updated within a few days of an update to KSP.

2nd, before beginning to use a certain mod, look at the corresponding thread for that mod on the add-on release and add-on development forums. Make a note of the mod authors name, and look at how active they are on the threads for the mod. The more active they are, generally the faster a Mod will be updated following a new patch. While I'm not saying you shouldn't use some of the less active or popular Mods, just be aware that you take a risk of waiting longer following a patch for the corresponding Mod update.

As for the Mods you listed, I haven't used KOSMOS or IonHybrid, so I can't comment on how good they are. If you are looking for rocket parts, KW Rocketry is very good. As for Mechjeb, I don't know of any other single mod that does everything MJ does. If you are only interested in the data it provides, like delta-v and flight data, Kerbal Engineer Redux is a popular substitute. As for it's autopilot features, the pickings are slimmer.

Finally, check out the Community Mod Library thread forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55401-Community-Mods-and-Plugins-Library for a very good list of mods of all types, along with a guide for what version it's been updated for.

The dev version of MJ for .23 was released about 20min after .23

Hello Rick,

Welcome to KSP. As mentioned, any mods that come in the form of parts are risky. If a new release breaks a mod than the ships with the modded parts will be taken out of the game and that might be disappointing when they're close to finishing a long mission. There are a lot of mods that don't come in the form of parts and those are a lot safer; they'll simply stop working when they break and that's it.

MJ is certainly a well supported mod that I wouldn't expect to break anytime some. Flight Engineer is another one, and I would highly recommend the Navyfish Docking Align mod as it will help you to make one of the hardest elements of the game -- docking -- a whole lot easier by feeding you the right information (you're still the one who has to do the docking though).

Ion engines tend to be small and without a lot of power. They're great for lightweight interplanetary probes. Not sure how that jives with big rockets though.

Something else you might want to do is keep a play install of the game to the side of your "official" install that has all your mods in it. That way you can continue playing while you wait for mods to get updated but still check out the latest features that SQUAD put into the game. You can do this by simply copying your install folder somewhere else.

Push and whiny was not what i was going for. more i need some advice, new to that game and dont want to lose hours of gameplay. but anywho thanks for the replies so quick.

Give it a year or even two, so the game is mostly finished, and whichever mods are still alive and working, you can pick up, and play. Currently it's a continuous shuffling between mods to get some good gameplay, as the game itself doesn't allow much to be added at once, at least not without serious tweaking.

Remember this is an alpha game still, so it is under development. Updates can break your saves even on a install without mods(although this is rare I believe) It all depends on what the devs change in the update. Ive never ported over a save file from a previous version, so Ive started over with each update. Mods are updated by the authors when they have time, most are very good about it, some have been lost forever.

Remember this if anything: Alpha game, so dont get attached to your saves :)

if r4m0n is on the dev team, then you are right, otherwise, you are mistaken.

Click MechJeb 2 Dev Build and look at the changes. You'll see he's correct.

The "official" version (2.1.1) is dev build #147, released on 12/23. The first version that had .23 support however was dev build 131, released on 12/17, right after .23 came out. The current dev build is #169.

Then next "official" version (2.1.2) is just gonna be a dev build, just like every other official release version. It's just not called a dev build publicly.
