Kerbin Atmoshpere Science Problem

Is there a min and/or max altitude for doing certain experiments? For example, in both my .23 default and modded games (I may have screwed something up in making folder copies and modding but that's why I'm asking this first) what should give results flying low over grasslands says "flying at Kerbin" or whatever the non-biome specific message is, specifically the materials bay for the default and both goo and materials bay for the modded.

I don't believe either of those are biome specific. but I could be wrong. as far as altitudes, theres flying at, High altitude (anything above 10km) Space low above and high above

IIRC, only the instruments (thermometer and such), EVA reports, and crew reports are biome specific. I do know however that the goo and lab are non biome-specific.

The atmosphere analyzing nose cone is inert at high altitudes, but I haven't seen where its functional ceiling is.
