Modular Bridge Assembly

I know there's really no purpose to this, but I was experimenting with rovers, boats, jet-rovers, jet-boats, jet-rover-boats today... anyway I came up with with a neat little trick for making a bridge. I am sure it will self destruct at some point if I keep extending it. Also, I really could get rid of at least half the parts on each unit to make it kill my cpu less.

Here it is:

Challenge: Build a bridge to the island runway. Drive a rover over it (by the way, it looks really cool, try using weld-it so you can reduce the part count and make it longer :) )

Pretty sure this is impossible because the render distance is only 2.5km and anything outside that is put on rails. The island runway is something like 30km away from KSC.

Weld-it must be an add-on, and I have not tried any of those yet. I'll check that out. I have eliminated a whole lot of parts though, but still, I expect maybe 8 modules to be about the limit. I'm already at about 2fps on the first design.

I'm sure the bridge can't work for any practical purpose using the normal game physics, but I'll get a picture of my science rover on it later.

EDIT: I actually built that thing as a heavy carrier initially, but when it ended up in the water by accident I got the idea.

Yes, i realize that one continuous bridge could not make it to the island runway. But what would be really cool, is if you had a few, maybe three or four bridge segments. Have a rover drive to the end one. Then have the first one you placed move to the front, sort-of like a self- moving bridge. The rover could get to the island runway, with something like a magic carpet. In other words, the last one in line moves to the front, continue. I think you can do it

That's awesome! Maybe I'll just make a ferry... maybe time to experiment with a bunch of ion engines...

Any chance of getting the craft file I would like to look at your craft more closely as this has given me some awesome (possibly) ideas!

I'm a noob, so i can't attach, but I'll put a few of the different iterations on dropbox:

The first piece is longer:

The following segments were this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pt3qy0z4qa69dhc/Hauler-PBU3-2.craft

Then I started downsizing... unfortunately, If I remove too many parts, the first ramp becomes less "buoyant." there's a few other versions i created in that dropbox folder. one solar panel is enough to leave the lights on 24/7 and the 1k battery lasts through the night.

Cheers!

I just made a stock carrier for something special, but if I used something like this, it would've been way easier to get in the water. May I ask how many parts is each "segment"? Very nice though.

It was as high as 188, but I got it down to 66. There is still room to reduce it though, but this is my best compromise:

Here's how far I got on the new one before getting below 4fps... I have a quad core 3.6-3.8 athlon 4100 (I think) cpu, which isn't the best, but is pretty good normally.
