Lowest orbit possible around the moons?

Recommended Posts

Well, The highest point on minmus is about 5.4Km up, so you could possibly manage it at that altitiude, whereas mun's highest point is about 7Km up, on a mountainous area near the equator. That said, I routinely put things into orbit at ~6Km over minmus, and 10Km over mun, So I know that those altitudes are perfectly safe, over the equator at least.

Here are all of the highest points on each airless body:

Mun: 7061m

Minmus: 5725m

Ike: 12750m

Gilly: 6400m

Moho: 6817m

Dres: 5700m

Vall: 7976m

Tylo: 11290m

Bop: 21755m (!)

Pol: 5590m

Eeloo: 3900m

Disclaimer: the Kerbal Board of Insane Stunts and Taxidermy takes no responsibility for ships that smear themselves on the ground by flying at these exact elevations, failing to account for the fact that their own ship possesses a not-unreasonable amount of girth itself. Suggested minimum distance to maintain above these elevations is 100m.
