+1 for half mast that day. It just adds a minor detail that only the observant would pick out, but it is a little detail that just adds a little bit to the polish. And reminds you to kindly add an abort system to your rockets on next launch

I think this sort of thing is a good idea. It gives a "penalty" for death but without making the game any harder for new/ reckless/ sadistic players.

This and beards for kerbals on long duration flights...

Flag at half mast could be ok in campaign mode, but I doubt that anybody would notice as flag aren't exposed much to player's view, so it's rather an eye-candy.

Fallen cosmonauts could be mentioned separately in astronaut complex, when crew training, status, and missions statistics (how many missions each kerbal flown, Time spend in space, other bodies surface and EVA's, total distance traveled, medals, injuries and so on) would be implemented.

In sandbox mode Kerbals are pretty much expendable cannon fodder.

I like the half mast idea. Beyond that, no thanks. Cutscenes and music and such would get on my nerves.

Dropping the flag to half mast the next day and not changing anything else? Awesome.

although for Kerbals, someone dying is probably not considered a "failure".

My only issue with this is that at the rate most people go through kerbals, the flag would almost certainly be at half mast 90% of the time.

I imagine that the other 10% of the time it would be in the laundry.
