What are your standard config edits?

I'm just in the process of setting up a new KSP game to try out interstellar again, and every time I do, I find I'm having to change the same defaults to something more suitable. What are your usual CFG edits? Like, not mods and whatnot, but the things you always change in the settings menu which you wish were the defaults. Maybe if there are some patterns Squad will change their defaults?

Here are mine:

Graphics:

- Fullscreen on

- 1920 x 1080 resolution

- Terrain scatter on at 20% density (How is this still "experimental?")

Audio:

- All volume sliders halved (whatever happened to the master volume control? KSP's still loud!)

Input:

- Change translation controls to I up K down

- Change EVA suit lights to ; (otherwise they toggle on and off if you hit L in a ship with an exterior seat.)

- Change rover driving controls to I/K/J/L. (Does anyone NOT do this? Otherwise torque flips your rover when trying to drive!)

- Use staging controls in docking UI (Personally, I hate docking mode.)

I always as standard edit the minimum distances for lower quality planets, it means my intel hd graphics isn't being tortured to death...

Great, now I'm thinking about building an imaginary gaming computer in the summer, WHYYY !!!!!

In addition to all the modifications you mentioned Teiwaz,

Conic patch mode = 0

conic patch draw limit = 8

I reduce the burn time of the sepatrons to 1 second.

When I have KW installed I always edit the 2m service module engine to have a normal blue flame instead of that large RCS jet white flame.

VAB_ANGLE_SNAP_INCLUDE_VERTICAL = True

CONIC_PATCH_LIMIT = 8

I've also moved the fuel line part to a different folder, so it shows up on the first page of propulsion

Vertical snap is useful for keeping your asparagus lined up, and the parts that need to be attached somewhere other than the center(landing legs for example) are infrequent enough that I can get the angle right manually.

Hmm I have my scatter set to 100%, but my res only goes up to 1680x1080 (I think is where it is now anyways). I just moved my translation keys to the arrow keys and right side shift/control, to me this is more natural from old school flight sims. I think my video card is what is as it is only a 640gt 1 gig card, I know I need a better one but I have 16 gigs of RAM with an I5 4670 chip so I think I am good in all other areas LOL.

If you're into mods, Editor Extensions makes this toggleable, plus adds a bunch more symmetry modes (Up to 50x symmetry, IIRC) and more granular angle snap. Highly recommended.

For me, assigning "-" and "=" to zoom in/out is essential, as I play on a laptop.

Fullscreen off.

Custom resolution, either 1660x1000 for single screen, centered, or 5040x1000 for tri-screen, centered.

Terrain scatter on, 20% density

Quality options reduced to minimum except terrain quality.

PLANET

{

name = EveOcean

minDistance =1

minSubdivision = 1

maxSubdivision = 6

}

PLANET

{

name = KerbinOcean

minDistance = 2

minSubdivision = 1

maxSubdivision = 3

}

PLANET

{

name = LaytheOcean

minDistance =1

minSubdivision = 1

maxSubdivision = 7

}

The oceans of KSP make my computer want to explode.

Same situation here. I also change my zoom in/out to not require holding Shift. I'm gonna have to try that vertical snap option - I'd always thought it would screw up the design by tilting stuff, but maybe I should've checked...

I recommend building one, I am about to finish my new gaming computer very soon! :D Goodbye water lag, hello max settings!

Other than turning down the settings, I like to turn off crew respawn. Having kerbals come back seems wrong to me, as if they die it is because of an error I made. (rocket crashes during testing are either unmanned or reverted). I also switch the rover controls, as having your rover flip over while turning because the cockpit torque was too powerful is fairly annoying.
