Handbreak?

Recommended Posts

I recently switched from conventional landers to SSTOs planes. Managed to land on the Mun just fine, but when Jeb got out, the SSTO ran away from him.

He started muttering some Kerbal curses I didn't understand, but it's pretty clear he didn't enjoy running after the SSTO.

My quick fix was to simply retract my landing gear, which worked fine. But when I extended the landing gear again, my SSTO flipped over due to the low gravity.

Is there any way to enable a handbreak???

You are going to kick yourself but...

Click the brake button on the UI, next to the altimeter :)

Arrrrrrghhhh, so easy! You'd think Jeb knows about breaks, but I guess it's all about speed with him and he skipped that part of the manual.

Thx a lot!

B key works too, I eventually looked in up in key bindings. I've made successful landings of simple jets that later blew up because I had no idea how to stop...

Oh, I knew about the B key...it's just that once Jeb gets out of the SSTO, those breaks disengage and the thing starts rolling again. Forced me to constantly switch between Jeb and the SSTO to keep it from rolling away.

Will test breaking tomorrow, spent time perfecting my SSTO rather than actually flying it. Sitting at an arguably weird 125k x 1m orbit because on Macs you hit the shift key to take screenshots, which engages the engines at the same time. Still have 24k deltav left, so tomorrow I'll take a trip to Jool and its moons to test those breaks.

For those wondering what sal meant, hit the small orange (brown??) symbol at the bottom right corner in the pic below to engage the handbreak.

Is it possible to set up an action group to turn off all engines (as in, shut down)? Might work for screenshot setup...

I'm sure I can change those screenshot settings, just didn't have time yet. Alternatively I could of course change the throttle button in KSP.

No, Kryxal means assigning the engine parts in the VAB/SPH to an action group. Some action groups are automatically defined, e.g. the brakes on wheels are auto-added to the "Brakes" action group (B key). Ten "custom" action groups are available (the 1 through 0 keys at the top of your keyboard), but will need parts (and specific actions) assigned to them.
