Gimballed SRBs

They're not that hard to build, almost every ICBM in the world uses them, and a race that can build mini-SABREs shouldn't really have problems attaching a hinge to the nozzle of an upside down firecracker and some hydraulics.

So...where are they?

I don't think there is such a thing as gimballed SRB's. I believe ICBM's use little thrusters, just like RCS to correct their path in flight. And it wouldn't make a lot of sence either because SRB's are made to get you going, not to steer. ICBM is one thing but if there's a man with a mission on top its a whole diffrent story. Besides, it would take an immense gimbal in order to direct the thrust that comes out of an SRB. SRB's are really... really... really powerfull. If you'd want the gimbal the SRB that's on the Space shuttle you'd need another one just to carry the gimbals.

Incorrect. There were two hydraulic power units (HPUs) located in the aft skirt section of the SRBs. They provided pitch and yaw control to a pair of servo actuators that gimbaled the nozzle.

Actually the space shuttle SRBs had gimballing capabilities.

I think gimballed SRBs would be great, that's why I made my own. They're not quality enough to share with the community yet, but one is size 3 (NASA parts).

This is a really great suggestion and I think it would be a major (and easy?) improvement to KSP. I happened to be reading up today on launch systems and I was really surprised to see how many are based on SRB (Minotaur, Shavit, Vega) --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_solid-fuelled_orbital_launch_systems

But how do they control their flight path? With gimbaling of course! I think this addition would add a lot of fun and flexibility to KSP. Please add it!

SRBs would make great first stages if not for the lack of gimbal. They have an advantage over LFBs in that they are a single part for which the CoM does not move downward as they consume propellant, this helps keep the rocket aerodynamically stable.

There's usually enough air for a first stage to use winglets, but I was sure one of the stock SRB's did used to gimbal, if only by 0.5 degrees.

This has been suggester many times. I don't know wether they would help, but if due to balance reasons, their other stats will be reduced, I wouldn't like that. Also, I am up for new boosters. Basically, most problems can be solved by adding more boosters! AWESOME

I'd definitely support gimbals on the long SRBs (Thumper/BACC, Kickback/ARM SRB), but not the small ones (Flea, Hammer).. a little progression that way.

Also, please add a 2m booster! Maybe in the NASA-style? Anyway, a 2m booster, that you can entirly use for the gravity turns! A massive SRB for massive payloads! That could replace the Kickback-clusters! The MOTHER OF ALL BOOSTERS! Nothing you can't solve with it! High tech, but harder, better, faster, stronger!
