Solar panels should follow the inverse square law

I really don't understand why they don't already. Is the current model really easier to program?

And right now RTGs aren't really that useful (though you don't have to remember to deploy solar panels/point the rocket at the sun for OX-STATs).

As far as I know, real solar panels do not follow inverse square law. At certain insolation they become saturated, below certain insolation they stop providing power at all, and the proportion between insolation and output is not linear. So current solar panels in KSP feel real enough to me.
