I want to take the guys out of the first ship i landed and put them in the second. I just landed my first rover but cant seem to figure out how to switch what I am controling. wow that is complicated ..lol .. I am in my rover now how do I switch targets back to one of the ships I landed and get the Kerbals out? Better? :) Please help and old girl out !!!

You switch control of nearby vessels by using the "[" and "]" keys.

They have to be within range though. Not sure if it's physics range (about 2.5km) or some other arbitrary limit.

Alternatively, if there are no nearby vessels, you need to switch to them using the map view - accessed with the "M" key. Click on the vessel icon you want to control, then select the appropriate option form the context menu.

Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like you managed the hard part just fine (pinpoint landings). :)

TMS already described the best way to switch focus between local vessels/kerbals. If all else fails, you can also go back to the Space Center and choose a target from the tracking station's list of "flights".

First a special thanks to Kasuha ... having those key binds in front of me really helps :) I have a new problem ... big surprise huh? :) I landed a ship about .. 20 feet .. from a ship that was there earlier. I built and landed this new ship to bring fuel to the one sitting there. I can transfer fuel from the spare tanks I landed to the ship that brought it but not to the ship siting next to me .. what am I missing here?

I see a private message but can't open it !!! The suspence is killing me. Am I allowed to put an E-mail address here where you can write me? I guess they will edit it out if i cant right? <Snipped. Probably not a good idea to leave your personal email out in the open! ~Spec.>

Still have to figure a way to get Jeb out of his eternal orbit !!! I miss the little guy XD.

If you are playing in stock KSP, then the only way to transfer fuel between two vehicles is by docking them. From the sound of your description (landed 20 feet away), I'm guessing they are not docked.

If you are trying to rescue a stranded Kerbal, then you have two basic options (without getting "cheaty").

1) If you want to stick with stock KSP, send a rescue vehicle. One with enough fuel to get back, and space to store your hitchhiking kerbal.

EDIT: By the way... If you received a PM in the forum, you can get to it by going to the top of the page, clicking on "Notifications" and selecting "Inbox." From there you can click on the message like you would in most email programs.

2) Install a mod, such as KAS, which will allow you to hook up a fuel line from your rescue fuel ship to the stranded ship. That will require you to rebuild and launch a new rocket after you've installed the mod.

If you aren't a fan of mods (neither am I), then I would say sending another rescue vehicle is the best bet. Just make sure no one hitchikes in the rescue pod. Kerbals have a tendency to do that... :)

After reading this bit, it suddenly becomes clear to me exactly what your issue is.

There is a rather annoying, deceptive, and (in my own opinion) malicious banner ad that masquerades as a notification stating "You have private messages!" That is not provided by our forum. We do not require you to install any special programs to view Private Messages. In all probability, the software you just installed is probably some sort of spyware or malware, and I'd recommend that you uninstall it ASAP and perform a virus / spybot / malware scan immediately thereafter. In the meantime, I'm uploading this screenshot to show you where the proper place to check for private messages is, since a picture is worth a thousand words:

TVCepNA.png

We on the staff have been made aware of this ad in the past, but I'll mention this particular incident to them anyway, as it might help get that particular ad removed more quickly.

While you're at it, it's probably a good idea to familiarize yourself with the Forum FAQ, so you better understand what tools you have available at your disposal here on the forums.

Hope this helps :)

I assume everyone got the new upgrades .. awesome !!! I purchased the game through Steam ... I can't seem to find it in my puter ... do I have to be connected to the internet to play? I wanted to install a couple of clean copies before I start trying to dump in mods. Can I get this game on a disc somehow? Built a new rescue ship .. gonna bring my Kerbaks home and build a new base at a better location. :)

I didn't see your posts at first ... yes my puter became so cluttered that I had to spend a couple of hours cleaning it out. Still not running quite right so I am going to run a boot scan. maybe now I can see my messages !!! gonna try. Thanks for the help !!!

No internet connection required, not even needed to log into Steam to start KSP.EXE (or Launcher.EXE if you prefer to do so).

Look under whereveryouputit:\Steam\SteamApps\common and just copy the game folder wherever you like.

The default steam install location for KSP on a 64 bit computer is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program. On a 32 bit computer its the same but without (x86). You don't need an internet connection to play, and can copy the entire KSP folder somewhere else and run it with the KSP.exe file from the new folder.

I made a program a while back that will let you have different GameData folders (and other folders) without having to copy everything so that you can have different "instances" (stock, modded, stock+KER, etc) but some people have reported issues (and then never followed up on me trying to help them). I made it so I could have multiple modded installs with steam easily without messing up my stock game. It's DataSwitcher, in my sig.

I rescused two Kerbals and got them back home !!! Yeah. I guess my new question is ... there are ships all over the planet that I have returned. Do the Kerbals stay there forever? No one picks them up? In settings I changed objects down to the lowest setting I could get above zero which is twenty five. I see no difference. How do I pick up the ships and retrive the Kerbals? It is looking a bit cluttered on the surface. I am sorry I have yet to read all the FAQ's but promise I will ... I just have such little time to play.

There are two ways to get rid of these ships: if you've just landed and/or are on the surface (this works for EVA's, too) move the mouse to the altimeter at the top of the screen and you'll see a big green recover button. I'm sure you can guess what that does.

The other way, which is more useful in your current situation, is to go into the tracking station, click on a landed ship, and click the green button that shows up in the lower red corner. Repeat until you've run out of finished missions.

This also works for debris that has landed on Kerbin. The only difference is that you'll have to turn off the debris filter in the tracking station to see it. (Move your mouse to the top and click the left most button.)

Also, if you have a science vessel that crashed and scattered parts, recovering them (not terminating) in the tracking station will also recover the science.

Really? I would think it doesn't matter in which order you recover the vessel and the broken-off parts, since they're considered separate craft at that point.

I am going to go try that .. I brought two more home but like the Matrix we all live in I a pushed a button and changed reality. Jeb , Bill and Bob are back with me !!! I built a new lander and a rover WITH docking ports. The rover docked right up with my ship on the pad but I cannot figure out how to get them back apart !!! Stuck like dogs in heat. I can't find any commands in my list for it. I ended up actually knocking over the ship on the pad ... which made for one awesome explosion. :) Building a rocket to get the new Rover there ... will then be able to move all the fuel around I ever need ... this one is turning out to be just a bit more difficult, but I am learning a bit everyday ... especially with the help I have received here. I called my rover the Matrix Centipede as in testing it seems it can crawl over anything and keep on going. Now if I can just get it undocked !!! Thanks for all your help guys. One day I shall make a you tube vid .. Kerbal 101 ... my way to repay for all the help I have received. Time to test what I have learned today. Thank you all !!! Jeb .. I promise to never lose you again !!!! :)

You are correct. The order doesn't matter.

The rest of my comment you quoted was about debris. What I was meaning to say is that components that broke off as debris (such as goo containers) can still be recovered and yield science. If you terminate them, the science is lost.

I thought "terminate" and "recover" use the same button... bleh, it's been too long since I used either.
