Does is true that in new patch we would have economic simulation in career mode

I have to say that I have not played for KSP for long time, I just have a lot of classes at the university, now got a bit more free time, but it will not last long. I wonder when the new update will be released, and does we would get economic management.

With budget management the game would be more realistic. I hope we don't get politicians :D

Whether or not we'll get cash for doing contracts in 0.24 is unconfirmed so far. Contracts and mission generation for those contracts are the only confirmed things so far. Although to me it seems likely that we would also get a basic economy with missions and contracts, I am under the impression that it wouldn't be a whole lot of work if the mission mechanics are implemented and working correctly. Seems like basic math mostly, give X cash for finished contract, subtract Y cash from cash pool for launching ship where Y is the total part cost of a design. The issue would be fleshing it out and balancing it, that would take more than one update, same as it was and is with the science system.

If this is where this game is going then, I'm out of here! Seems like it's just devolving into a R.T.S type of game! All the limitations of money, reputation and science, to me, seems to detract from the original game direction of just exploring the Kerbal universe and having fun! See you in "Sand Box", or maybe not.

I think sandbox is here to stay regardless of what the devs do with career mode. You're right -- sometimes it's fun to set your own goals and explore.

I'm pretty sure Sandbox mode is here to stay, and money is only for Career mode. Even then, I'm under the impression that it's more about setting budgets for missions, rather than earning and spending cash, but I could be wrong.

Sandbox will always be fun, but I'm looking forward to the challenge of having to manage a budget. Right now, if I want to go to the Mun, I can just build a giant behemoth and get there with a a few orange tanks full of fuel left, which I'll then just dump in orbit to make turning easier. There's no need to plan and be efficient. And since I have so much extra delta V, I can take any sort of ridiculous method to get there.

So I hope money isn't just used the same way that science is, to unlock parts and then you keep them permanently. I want the challenge of making every drop of fuel count.

But yeah, sandbox isn't going anywhere either. Nor is the ability to alter a save file and give yourself unlimited science and money. Literally no reason to complain.

This has always been planned for KSP - you know, its part of the whole 'run your own space agency' thing. Even the very oldest versions of KSP had a 'cost' in the parts descriptions...

It will always be trivial, if tedious, to mod all the costs to zero if you want to play career without worrying about financial issues, assuming that sandbox doesn't satisfy you and career isn't configurable enough out of the box.

But wait. What is the point of contracts without money?

None (unless you're one of those people who has trouble setting your own goals in a sandbox game), they're probably just laying the groundwork for future versions.

....Am I the only one who sorta kept track of rocket costs and gave myself earnings based on missions? I didn't use the very nice Mod which is available now, but still I thought it was much more fun that way...

We don't know how cost will be implemented. It might be that per-rocket costs are often trivial, and the expensive stuff is researching new tech. Or it could be the exact opposite.

In any case, chances are that when money is first introduced, it's pretty easy to get. Too easy is generally better than too hard in games.

Any system they have will be pretty forgiving. I think they said you have 3 resources, reputation, science, and money, and they can be traded if you are low on one but have a lot of another. For the final game anyway.

Remember that squad is also building a game that they would like to play. So I imagine that they wouldn't just throw in some willy nilly silliness to ruin their own fun.

@lammatt They always say that, and do that. Their standing policy on releases has always been the same: the update will release when it has reached the designed goal, and is ready for everyone to use. They can't guarantee any arbitrary date, otherwise you get half finished crap - they, you, me, we don't want that. Also, accusing Squad of abandoning the game without any sort of substantiation for your claim does no one any favors and just makes the Moderators job harder.

Wow lammatt, are you ever going to look like a silly sausage when 0.24 is released! :D

the update is just a myth.

there's NO 0.24 coming. they abandoned the game.

it's 4months already and they only say soon™

and they close every question on the WHEN aspect of the 0.24 myth.

Don't forget the game is getting multiplayer... or does that detract from what you consider the experience to be?

Career Mode does not replace Sandbox, you have no reason to complain.

I do realize that multiplayer is on the horizon. Hopefully it will be a "co-op" kind of thing rather than a competitive " I've got more money and progress than you do " kind of thing. If the latter comes to pass, well yeah, I'll just stay in sandbox. In the mean time I will keep stating my opinion, which is not a complaint.
