Is it possible to create a artificial gravity well?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to start a project and its going to be to make an artificial gravity well, Reasons complicated and very in-depth don't want to explain right now.

So before i start i want to get your thoughts, Is it possible or do you think i'd be wasting my time trying? :)

Give a little more detail please. In stock KSP, gravity is something planets are programed to have, and it is not possible to create one simply by getting a large mass of parts.

It could be possible to do it via mods- check out planet factory, which lets people make their own planets, complete with SOIs.

You might be better of asking about it in one of the mod creation sub-forums.

If you're wondering about creating artificial gravity in real life, the Science lab subforum is the place to get a discussion going.

A moderator will be able to shift this thread to the appropriate place.

Also, welcome to the KSP forums!

A way to simulate gravity between two objects in space is just to attach a wire between them (perhaps a KAS cable) and set them a spinning. They will act in a similar manner to a planet orbiting around a star, assuming one is much larger than the other.

You seriously dont want to do this :P I did this by mistake with my skycrane tug. Tried to lug a 160ton mass of metal with a 30ton ship and didnt reel in the winch first. Those cables are a bit springy so I was geting whiped around like crazy, not on a nice spin. It also generated phantom forces that rapidly raised my apoapsis even with the engiens off till the stress riped the winch off my craft.

Whether or not it's possible will depend on the method you're attempting. Since you haven't specified that, there's really no way to evaluate the possibility. :D (Meanwhile, moved to gameplay questions.)

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
