Career and KSP 0.23.5

Recommended Posts

I tried this advise to run KSP 0.23.5 and keep all what I have done in my career on 0.23, but it does not work, or there is something i do not understand and I did wrong

First of all: if you don't have a backup and already loaded your old save - you can't save it (no pun intended). You might want to try to edit quicksave, though.

Step 1: Load 0.23.5, create a new career game, exit game.

Step 2: Locate your backed up persistent.sfs, open it with notepad. Find string "version = 0.23.0", change it to "version = 0.23.5" (there is two instances of it)

Step 3: Locate your new career save persistent.sfs, open it with notepad, find this text:

SCENARIO
{
name = ScenarioDiscoverableObjects
scene = 7, 8, 5
= 832827658
sizeCurve
{
key = 0 0 1.5 1.5
key = 0.3 0.45 0.875 0.875
key = 0.7 0.55 0.875 0.875
key = 1 1 1.5 1.5
}
}
SCENARIO
{
name = ProgressTracking
scene = 7, 8, 5
Progress
{
}
}

Copy-paste it into your career save, place it right before these lines:

I understood I have to the strings "version = 0.23.0" to "version = 0.23.5" on my backup Save>persistent.sfs. What about my backup Save>quicksave.sfs ?

Then, do you mean you copy paste these lines from you new career save >persistent.sfs to your 0.23 backup career> quicksave.sfs or to your 0.23 backup career>persistent.sfs

In my save folder I have 2 files: persistent.sfs and quick save.sfs.

Do i need to modify both ? I f I modify one, what do I do with the other ?

And what about these line at the end just before "ROSTER" ? They are not on the 0.23 persistent.sfs and quicksave.sfs

}

DISCOVERY

{

state = 1

lastObservedTime = 0.02

lifetime = 1717762.28027344

refTime = 1728000

size = 2

}

FLIGHTPLAN

{

}

CTRLSTATE

{

If we change our backup in "version = 0.23.5, don't we have to copy those lines too?

I think there may be a quick way to recover your progress. But, it depends on 2 things :

1. Have you quicksaved by pressing F5 at anytime while in career mode since updating to .23.5?

2. Have you updated to the latest patch which is build# 0.23.5.464?

If you have not used F5 in .23.5 and you have the latest version, then you should be able to recover lost progress by following these steps exactly :

1. Make back-up copies of both the persistent.sfs and quicksave.sfs somewhere else on your computer like on the desktop in case something goes wrong.

2. Assuming you have already started a new career in .23.5, go to the save folder for your career and delete the persistent.sfs.

3. rename quicksave.sfs to persistent.sfs

4. Run KSP and and load your carrer normally and hopefully you will find that everything is back to normal.

If this does not work, then you will have to edit the persistent.sfs in order to get your progress back.

It seems easier to me to just give yourself science points so that you can go back to the R&D center and open the nodes again. You can do this by following the instructions in this post :

Honestly, the only thing I did was:

1. Back up my old .23 save

2. Start .23.5, see that everything is gone, panick, still save

3. Open up my .23 backup save

4. Locate SCENARIO, and copy all "Science", "Tech" and ProgressTracking

5. Open up my .23.5 persistant.sfs, paste them all into the SCENARIO section just as they were.

6. Some technologies are missing in the techtree, just re"buy" those since there's no money yet.

Yeah, I may not understand what gilflo is asking. first of all :

Do i need to modify both ? I f I modify one, what do I do with the other ?

You only need to modify the persistent.sfs. That is the KSP auto-save file. The quicksave,sfs is a user created file that is created in game when you press F5 and is loaded when you hold F9.

Giflo, if you're still have not got back to where you want to be, I'll try to help some more. Just let me know.

Many thanks Otis. I only modify the persistent.sfs

I did what Kobymaru said.

It works but I can't get back my subassembly folder and my VAB and SPH folders with all my ships

I copy them and past them in the default career folder I created on 0.23.5.

I have all my sciences and tech from O.23. I got also all my vessels that are outside in space, but nothing to load in the VAB and SPH and no subassembly folder
