No Delta-V readouts from MJ or Kerbal Engineer

Recommended Posts

Something is borked with thrust and delta-v readouts. It's like MJ doesn't see engines on my rockets:

Occurs in both VAB and flight scenes. Also occurs exactly the same way in Kerbal Engineer. The rocket configuration doesn't matter; nothing shows nonzero thrust or dV.

Only mods I can think of that might be messing with this are Stock Rebalance Project, and maaybe using the Majir tech tree via treeloader. Ideas?

The released MJ update for 23.5 had this problem but it's largely fixed in the latest deb build. Try that instead.

As for Kerbal Engineer, I haven't see that it's been updated for 23.5 so that's probably its problem. But the new version of MJ shows TWR and dV for other planets now so the usefulness of KER has decreased a lot now anyway.

Surely an MJ feature doesn't affect the usefulness of KER at all. There are lots of people who do not need or want the other features MJ provides and KER (the fixed version linked in post 2) is actually more useful than it use to be due to various other fixes and updates.

They are different things but there is also a lot of overlap. I used to have KER as well as MJ mainly because of KER's ability to use different reference planets, just as Geschosskopf suggests someone might. To that extent it is less useful to have both now.

Anyone care to comment on VOID, by the way? I keep thinking that's probably more comprehensive than either KER/MJ but haven't got around to trying it.

I've actually started relying mostly on SteamGauges for in-flight info readouts... not as much total info, but it's a lot easier to find the relevant data pieces quickly. VOID is nice if you want to plan maneuvers by hand I guess, but for me that's what nodes and online calculators are for :P

EDIT: also the resize-ability of SteamGauges is nice when screen UI space starts getting cramped, which it inevitably does.

I use VOID, mostly for the heads-up display. Non-intrusive, and it has pretty much every bit of information I need. It's got some issues post-update, though, and they're not quite all ironed out yet.

What does KER give you that MJ doesn't? I understand MJ gives you MORE, but is there something KER has that MJ doesn't?

I might have to check out VOID. Is it usually pretty stable? I grow weary of mods that constantly crash.

I think MJ vs KER is more of a preference debate. Some people feel "tempted" by the extra MJ features. Others assume that if you have MJ installed, you must be using it for everything.

I simply use it for information and to do burns when I'm feeling lazy. I essentially chose it over KER because (at the time) it was more stable and I liked the interface better.

KER's displays are generally tidier than MJ's to my mind, although both can be edited. The orbit and target (esp. interplanetary) information in KER is generally better too. For obvious reasons MJ's focus is on using the information it has, not necessarily showing it. Having said that, since reference bodies were added to MJ I do find myself using KER less and less.

I have this problem too as soon as I start adding the new 3.25m parts to the rocket.

If you remove all the new parts and delete the MJ radio thingie and reattach it, it should show the dV status.

Did you try installing one of the newer dev builds of MJ? Sorted me right out.
