It's a known bug. Sorry I can't actually remember the exact cause of it but I've definitely seen it before on here and seen it explained. I know that's not of much help but I can't find the thread anywhere in my history

It appears you are using Interstellar. There's an option to scan for [i forgot the material name here] for you to mine it, and the spheres will appear, indicating the area where you can mine the specific material. Just discovered these yesterday by accident.
